If you're not a teenager, then it probably implies a hormonal imbalance.

Years back when I was diagnosed infertile (I know, see, doctors suck, those regular folks here know I have two youngsters*)! I went to ANOTHER doctor who was also a specialist for a second opinion and he said the first guy who diagnosed me infertile was wrong- and he said that he could tell that from LOOKING AT MY FACE because he had NEVER met an infertile woman who had oily skin!!
He said all infertile women had dry, dry skin.
True story, don't know if he was right, always thought he was a bit weird actually*)!*)!!
But if he was right there's a silver lining to pimples*)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been wondering the same thing....acne doesnt run in my family, and i didnt have any problems with it while i was going through puberty or anything like that, but i started to get it when i got lymes...so im not sure..i cant really help you out any..BUT..i know how ya feel.

Yes, it could be a hormone imbalance, which many people with Lyme have reported. Infection itself can cause blemishes, too, from Lyme or something else. I had a bad outbreak when my tooth went bad. Tooth pulled, no more zits. So you can rule out other causes, but you can still blame Lyme.

Most likely an inflammation or hormone reaction. I have the misfortune of it running in my family (it does keep us looking young in our old age though. I still may get one of those laser procedures though).

I would look real close at possible co-infection.
At least 70% of OLDER people that I know with Lyme seem to develop persistent "pimples" prior to and transiently during treatment. They clear up after successful treatment. This corelation is so strong that with some of them you can actully see how the treatment is progressing by looking at their face.
Note that these were people that did not have "pimples" for decades, but developed them along with Lyme symptoms.
My guess is that it has something to do with infection of the pituitary, or at least action on the pituitary by the infection.
Do you see a correlation between flare up and prevelence of the pimples. This appears to be common, at least in the people that I know.
In terms of significance, I am not sure. Some that I now that had this were treated with 6 weeks of IV and totally recovered (with some residual but minor damage), whereas others have been under repeat treatments for years and cannot stop for long due to relapse.

I was on erythromycin, trimox and mino for acne in my 20's, and I went off of them in my 30's and ended up disabled.
Personally, I think pimples mean chronic systemic infection.

I've been trying to figure this out for almost 2 years now.
Daughter dear's acne got worse when Lyme came back. It looked better while on Biaxin, then got horrible while on tetracycline! (Even the LLMD asked, "What's with the pimples?")
She is maybe 75-80% better now, back on Biaxin, and her face and back starting to clear up again.

I've had pimples since I was in the fourth grade. It actually seems that most of my pimple problem was due to my hypothyroidism. Since being medicated for it, my face has gotten much better.
Doesn't mean you have hypothyroidism, just telling you my story.
Pimples are caused by hormonal imbalance, but I doubt they have anything to do with lyme.

I get huge cysts under my skin on my face. Which then look like pimples, but are not at all. They last for months and are SO painful that i sometimes can not talk or smile. They also leave huge scars and get so big they cause my skin to split.
I also get a few small pimples but do not have oily skin what so ever. My skin is very very dry.
No doctor of any kind has been able to figure out what this was and why. All meds they gave me either did nothing or made it worse.
I have often wondered if this was related to Lyme.

I have read and I'm sorry I can't guarantee that it will work that milk thistle helps the liver and when the liver is unhappy you get skin problems.
Also, vitex (chasteberry) is supposed to help regulate hormones - up or down depending on which way you need to go.

I had terrible acne as a teenager (didn't realize I had Lyme even way back then).
It was still breaking out up until I started treatment--taking Zith and mepron. Now it's A LOT better!

I just asked my doctor yesterday about the pimples I've started having.
He said that acne occurring mid-treatment could actually be a sign that your system is starting to work again. Lyme weakens the immune system and your body doesn't react in the way it should. For example, you may have reduced hayfever allergy symptoms or not seem to get the cold or flu.
Pimples are a way your for your body to pushout toxins. So, it might be a good sign.
In my case, he thinks it's a direct result of Iodine supplements (Iodoral). He said when the iodoral starts working, it pushes clorine out of the system.
That said, I bought a new acne system from Clinique last week and it seems to work well. It's three steps. Within a few days I noticed a difference.

For me it seemed to correlate with infection and detoxing. I had great skin until about 3-4 years ago. When I went on abx it got better over a few months and has been really good since. An occasional chin pimple now, but nothing like the forehead/nose/chin breakouts I used to get.

Mercury toxicity is also common with Lymed people, and when I had my amalgams removed I broke out HORRIBLY along the jawline.
I heard that others (without Lyme) broke out this way after their fillings were removed.
A pharmacist recommended wintergreen alcohol for me to clear it up. It's green. It's probably terribly drying for the skin, but it worked!

Funny, I have that breakout issue too. I've been using the sauna heavily for about a year, and it seems to make me breakout, and in patches in the same general places. Not sure it it is due to toxins, or due to some other activity relating to the infared sauna.

morning - hope it's ok that I shortened your name. If it's sauna, I think it confirms my doctor's theory that your body is starting to rid you of toxins.
I hate this, because I've never had much acne at all. People always complement my skin. Who knew my good skin was a symptom of untreated Lyme!

Many lymies report pimples/acne/breakouts during their treatment, and I've experienced it too. What's odd is that some of us are taking abx that are sometimes rxed to treat acne, such as minocycline.
I chalk it up to changing action of our immune system which is probably going through its up and downs in response to the lyme and abx.
