Ceftin is a good drug for lyme disease.

Just make sure you were tested for all co-infections so you can treat everything early.

I took ceftin's generic for months and months.....it was very beneficial......but never just by itself......always combined with another lyme or co-infection drug.

You might want to check an earlier posting on this topic. My long response there can be found about half way down the 1st page to this string.

Okay. That didn't show up as a link. Maybe it will when added as a reply. Or you could cut and paste I guess, or do a search here for Ranbaxy ceftin. That will take you to the old posting.

I would like to update my old posting by saying that after being on the generic Ceftin for over 3 years, along with the Biaxin and doxycyline, the CVS pharmacy where I had been getting the Ranbaxy generic brand stopped routinely carrying that brand of the drug. What I got was made by the original maker of Ceftin. I thought I had gotten the "real stuff" by mistake, since the pharmacy didn't have the generic.

I was later told that it was also a generic, but marketed by the original drug company.

In any event, within 2 days of taking this drug, my old arthritic pains in my lower back started showing up again. I had essentially forgotten how I had not responded to the Watson generic.

So I immediately went back to the pharmacy and got the Ranbaxy brand again, and within a day and a half the pains were gone again.

Needless to say, I love those little blue pills! (I'm talking about the Ranbaxy brand of cefuroxime axetil, not those other blue pills.)

I discovered that my Good Neighbor Pharmacy routinely stocks the Ranbaxy generic, so I switched to them to fill this prescription, so I didn't have to get a special order as at other pharmacies.

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago when I first started taking this drug that the formulation of the Ranbaxy generic was somewhat different than the original Ceftin. Whatever the difference, it seems to make the world of difference for me regarding the control of arthritic pain.

Good luck with your meds.

Thanks for all the replies.

I had blood drawn 2 days ago for co-infections and thyroid checks when i started this abx. Hopefully they come back clean. I am currently taking 500mg 3x a day w/ meals.

Caveman, the generic i got (from CVS btw!) is made by APOTEX USA. Any insight on that CO?

thanks again.....
