I just went to my HMO doc today. I am sure she now thinks I'm nuts, but she did concede to draw blood for my Vitamin D tests.

I project that if you are infected, your 1,25D (the kind that is biologically active) will be on the high side, just like most lymies.

BRH, the study discussed in your article focused only on DEATHS from cancer, and apparently did not track the INCIDENCE of cancer in those studied. I find that very odd, to say the least. Most everything I have read about adequate Vitamin D levels is about PREVENTING cancer. So, I'm not sure that study means much (or at least not to me).
Not to mention that we have no idea about how Vitamin D levels were `analyzed' by the researchers, or what state of health the 17,000 participants were in when their blood was drawn, etc.
I realize that all these particulars can't be known from just a single article about the study. But it makes me question the conclusions when I don't have enough background information.
dguy, when you say that ``your 1,25D ..... will be on the high side, just like most lymies'', I assume that you mean ``high'' according to the MP theories, not ``high'' as in above what is considered the normal range on the test. Perhaps I am misunderstanding. But if I am correct about this, I think it is important that this be clarified. This Vitamin D stuff is confusing enough as it is.

My only point in posting that link was that the evidence for supplementing with vitamin D is far from overwhelming.
Regarding cancer, have you considered that vitamin D supplementation might "prevent" cancer in the short term (studies are always short term compared to the length of most of our lives, hopefully) by reducing inflammation via immunosuppression?
It is important to distinguish between 1,25-D and 25-D because your body only uses the 1,25-D form. Dietary vitamin D is the 25-D form. The kidneys tightly regulate the conversion of 25-D to 1,25-D to keep 1,25-D in a fairly narrow range. Therefore, if the RATIO of your 1,25-D to 25-D is unusually high, above around 1.5 or so, something is seriously wrong!
Any doctor that understands vitamin D metabolism will agree with that. Don't think your doctor automatically understands vitamin D metabolism simply because he/she is a doctor.
Good luck with your research. Keep focusing on the root cause! Here are some more links you may find helpful:
