Well I am down with a full fledged cold - my first one in 7 years. When I was really sick with Lyme disease I never, and I mean never, came down with a cold.
The other day when my nose was running and my throat was scratchy I thought it was Lyme-related, but no, it just appears to be a regular cold.
Have other people gone for years without getting a cold? My untested theory is that our bodies are working overtime trying to fight the infection so they stomp a cold out of existence before it can get a foothold.
I've been sick with lyme for 13 yrs and would get a cold 1-2 x a year. But in the last 2 yrs, my lyme has become inflammed and I've not got a cold in 2 yrs.
I actually would like to get one cause I believe it would be great to give my immune system a kick start to fighting more lyme.

I had exactly the same experience despite lots of exposure for many years, and started getting the occasional cold again once I was doing better. Congratulations, hopefully it's a good sign!

Many people think this and my LLMD actually told me the same thing.
It has been quite a long time since I've had a cold as well.

I used to get about one or two colds per year, but can no longer recall the last time... maybe 10 years ago?
I'm convinced this is the Th1 branch of our immune system stuck in overdrive. The associated inflammation is responsible for many of our symptoms.

I noticed I was 'never' getting sick at all for 2 years - amazing - spend my life with the young share-a-cold-and-flu set. I've been diagnosed & treated for Lyme for about 11 months now. In the last 3-4 months I've had 3 mild but annoying colds. I was taking this as quite a bad sign - like, nothing in my system is working at all and I can't fight anything off.
You've given me another way to think about it - I'm going to ask my LLMD too. Also, in my original ID investigation (blood tested for about 50 things, no kidding), it was noticed that my 'helper' T cells were in a very heightened state - although no 'active' infections were found. Interesting.

Last winter, I tried to catch 8 colds (or was it 9 - I lost track). In the past 2 weeks, I've had to abort 3 colds in a row. Each one was different. And each one came on after some kind of contact with the public Library or the books from there. If you want to lick doorknobs, I think the public Library is probably a great, untapped resource.

Just got my first cold in over 4 years last month. Feeling better and better (lymewise). There's definitely something to this. I noticed it too.

I have a killer cold now, going on a week.
b4 this I went the whole month of october with nothing. First time in 6 years.
I think my lyme feels better because it changed the balance of my immune system. However having chronic lyme feels like a mild flu anyway!!!!!!!

I had two colds last year. For 7 years all I had was sore throats that went to bronchitis in two days.
Last year I had the real colds ....I actually felt better with the cold, which I hear can be common. So far Im waiting this year, hope I get one.

My boyfriend just had a bad cold, but we were fighting so I didn't see him while he was sick. Doh!!!!

I had a cold last January and relapsed even futher. I haven't had a cold since and fought one in October before it could take root. I thought it was because I was taking Epicor.
Lyme or not, I get colds, viruses, etc. I guess I don't fit the bill.

Where but LymeNet could you find people posting that they hope to catch a cold?
I may be working on Cold #4..... I had to go to Walmart yesterday and spent way too much time there...... awoke with a sneezing fit in the night, then have much stuffiness and mucus this morning..... nothing definite yet. Could be a false alarm.
I do think we can build up a certain immunity by exposure. Otherwise, all the employees at the library would be sick all the time, and so would doctors and their staffs.

Not able to read the other posts, but wanted to let you know I too just got cold for the first time since at least Oct. 2001..when my health went south.
It was not fun. My body did not react like I would have without the lyme. I was down and out for about 3 weeks...one week was the worse and was not aware how long I was down and out until things started picking up.
I was just in a black hole.
Also ran out of ketek during this time too so not on abx.
Not on abx now. Cold is gone. Health is picking up some.
But, I too have heard it is a good sign when our immune system is improving enough to have a cold??

I went like 5 YEARS without a cold or flu- definitely some revved up immuno thing going on with me!!! Now I have had 2 flus and each time I have praised the world and said THANK YOU because I take it as meaning my body is normalizing again!!!!!!!!
