Hello all: it's been ages since I've posted here but let me refresh.... I've been dealing with Candida problems (fairly severe) for over 2 years now.... I've finally decided to get really tough and stay with an anti-candida diet for as long as I possibly can. I'm also taking enteric coated oregano oil capsules and they are definitely killing yeast because I'm getting all the classic herx symptoms.
Question about salt: why do I crave it SO badly when I'm killing off the candida?? When I have gone back to a "normal" diet (did so from Aug '07 through several weeks ago) the salt cravings subsided. It's really ONLY when I'm on the strict diet and taking supplements to kill candida that I find myself loading my food up with salt.... I have done some research on it and I do know the adrenal/candida/salt connection.... but why does this come up only when I'm killing the candida off??!!
thanks

I think craving for salt is to do with low adrenals?
or aldosterone? I will go check my book and get back to you.

Are you eating less processed food on the anti-candida diet? If so, perhaps it's that your salt intake is so much lower that you have a real need for it.

Iodized salt is the only food item that has iodine. Your body doesn't need much iodine - only your thyroid wants it anyway. But your thyroid does need iodine. Reduce salt; don't give it up; and use iodized.

Oh, heck, hit enter too soon. Does the candida diet really work? I have nearly constant thrush. I was off abx 4 months and got rid of it.
Started them again - wasn't supposed to quit anyway - on day 6, I had thrush. I take probiotics; use Nystatin; manage to just keep it at bay. If if miss one probiotic (use Culturelle) - mouth feels like raw meat again.
I recently heard about the oregano - it works??

the anti-candida diet DOES work for me. In fact, the foods I eat/do not eat make all the difference in the world in the symptoms I see. While I'm by no means entirely feeling well when eating correctly I can see the distinctions clearly enough to know I'm on the right track. It's really TOUGH to maintain a strict diet like this. Once you begin starving the yeasts off you become even MORE sensitive to sugars/carbs.
If I eat even an apple now I immediately begin to eat the itchy/burning eyes and other classic candida symptoms. It will take me at least several months of this in order to gain a handle on the problem. I'm guessing probably more like 6 months.

oh forgot to add....definitely use the oregano!!! I take enteric coated capsules from NOW and they are very potent. My internal med specialist feels that oregano is one of the few proven yeast killers. He said that caprylic acid has proven very ineffective in testing but oregano has shown to be worthy.
