Hi everyone,

I've read here that you can actually take too much of probiotics.

so how can you tell what the optimum dose is?

You really can't compare apples to oranges.

Everything depends upon the type of probiotic and the way it is made and "delivered" to the body.

I highly recommend Theralac www.theralac.com and the Wholefoods Probiotics from www.livingfoodsusa.com

They are really excellent probiotics.

Here's a link to another discussion here:

PS When I take only Theralac, I take two a day when on abx. Right now, I'm taking the Wholefoods Probiotic twice a day and I throw in Theralac when I think about it.

The Wholefoods [or NuFerm] contains the s.boulardi so I'm making sure to take that one for now.

There is some evidence that probiotics can actually disrupt your immune response, so it is probably best to only take the bare minumum necessary for normal BMs while on antibiotics.

Personally I've found Theralac to be the most effective & in fact the only probiotic that doesn't cause diahhrea.

On MP, antibiotics are taken at most every other day in doses so small that these intestinal issues mostly disappear. I still take 1 Theralac capsule every Friday, when I remember.

I take DDS Plus brand and I take two a day, I don't know what the dose is as far as mg but if I get up again soon, I'll check.

thanks for the replies! i've been taking 6 jarrodophilus a day -- too many methinks.

I'm going to compare it to the brands you all mentioned and maybe switch.

I use a variety of brands, and I take between
10 billion and 140 billion organisms a day. it is a big step up from the 1 billion i used to take.
It has made an incredible difference to how I feel.
