For those of you who've survived flagyl... you have my congratulations and envy.

How did you take it? How often? What dose? Did you find any pulsing schedule easier to tolerate than others?

It's been a while since I've taken a cyst buster, and I re-started flagyl on Wed night. 500 mg twice a day - I didn't ramp up, just jumped right in (what was I thinking?).

Within hours, I was having one heck of a herx. Yesterday, I was completely incapacitated. From a total of only 2 doses.

I have to care for a small child, so being incapacitated isn't going to work. I have to function to some extent.

My LLMD wants me doing 2 weeks on/2 weeks off while I'm ramping up the bart treatment (currently on Bactrim and Biaxin).

Have any of you had good luck with a lower dose and/or a different pulsing schedule?

Thanks in advance for any ideas, advice...

I began with less than 250mg per day. I think I took 1/4 of a 250mg tablet..??

Ramp up slowly as you have now found out!!!

Take what you can tolerate!

PS... I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice! [Smile]

it has taken me almost 3 mnths to get up to full dose of 1-3x day. I just started the 3x a day yesterday so I am hoping by tomorrow I can still keep it going.

Be careful. It can cause DEPRESSION easily .

I would ramp up the dose slowly unless you can afford to be depressed and unable to function.
It also makes me dizzy and kills my appetite .

Thanks so much, Lymetoo, nj, and Annxyz...

If I can find the courage to re-open the fiery gates, I will try again at a lower dose in a day or two and ramp up.

Thanks for the warning on depression, too. Tindamax caused that for me, too, but it's been so long that I had forgotten. Ouch.

I ramped up slowly. I started with 1/4 of one 250 mg. tablet. I made it to three 250 mg tablets per day. The Herx was strong and I had to decrease.

Lily, how long did it take you to ramp up to 3 x a day?

Are you still trying to get back up there after decreasing?

Hope we all feel better soon.

Hey Cactus,
I'm supposed to jump in with 500mg 2day too....after ramping up to this dose within 10 days. My LLMD thinks Flagyl gets bart as well as cysts. He didn't mention pulsing though so we're supposed to re-evaluate after 3 weeks.

I took one 250 mg pill today and will leave it there for now. This one scares me. Haven't done a cyst buster ever so didnt want to start out w/this one...but my LLMD really thinks it gets bart and I'm coming off the tail end of bart tx.

I'm doing Levaquin + mino + Flagyl, and also have the care of a small child!

Good luck!

CD, glad to hear you are going slowly. Jumping straight in knocked my socks off.

We'll be ramping up together, if I can find the courage to open the flagyl bottle again!

Wishing you a quick and easy flagyl experience, and good days to enjoy your little one...

I had to ramp up much slower than that. and flagyl has been one of the harder herxier abx for me....

maybe cuz i have babs and babs herxes have been much worse than just lyme ones.

As far as i know i dont have bart... so i am assuming that my herxes are just lyme/babs now.
--

Annxyz - for me babs herxes always make me dizzier... and i think it is the babs that has been effecting my appetite. - just my expereince though.

I am hiding under a giant rock with the mention of Flagyl bart and bart meds but wishing all of you brave people a safe sane and easy journey stomping out cysts and bart.

Maybe one of these days I will get braver or they will figure out a way to cure bart by having one walk through a sound tunnel or some other sort of vibrational cure.
