Dear Friends,
Urgent! I must raise $90,000 by July 14, 2008 and an additional $110,000 by August 10 in order to retain the legal team which has been representing me.
If these sums are not raised, I will not be able to continue defending the charges brought against me by the Connecticut Department of Public Health for my treatment of children with Lyme disease, and I fear that I will be forced by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board to resign my license to practice medicine and to retire. This must not happen!
I understand all too well the considerable hardship that Lyme disease has imposed on too many families, and regret the need to appeal to you yet again for donations to my legal defense fund.
Yet the prospect of surrendering this critical fight is more daunting: If I do not continue to oppose these charges, how many more physicians will be left vulnerable to similar charges for their treatment of Lyme disease? How many more sick children will be abandoned?
I recognize that the figure of $200,000 appears overwhelming. However:
 If 10,000 families contribute $20, we will be able to meet our goal;
 If 4,000 give $50, we will be able to meet our goal;
 If 2,000 give $100, we will be able to meet our goal;
If every member of the Lyme community gives something, we will reach this goal!!!
I am confident that we can succeed, but I need the help of each and every one of you.
Time is of the essence and you must respond today. In return, I pledge to you that I will not give up this fight.
With my greatest appreciation,
Dr. Jones Charles Ray Jones, M.D.

Dr. Jones should be retiring anyway. He should write a book, perhaps with some help. Raising $200,000 for a man this old and unhealthy himself does not make economic sense. He should admit that there were some irregularities in his practice (we experienced some) and finish his life in a reflective mode.

Thanks TC. I think another frustrating angle is that it's the lawyer that is making the best profit on this fight. The longer it draws out, the more money he can charge off of it.
Too bad there isn't a lawyer that would take this case that isn't going to charge an arm and a leg. But yes, for now, we have to FIGHT for the children. This is insanity!

so advanced age and declining health are a reason to throw in the towel, based solely on your evaluation of economic return? If that is so, then I may as well stop seeing my llmd, and stop trying to treat. I can go reflect, too.
yes, that is supercilious response to the uncharacteristally harsh and I am sure, impulsive statement by Shosty.
Many dont feel that way, though. Many feel he has much yet to contribute, including training other pediatricians. Many llmd's will not treat young children (I am not talking about young or mid teens).
I disagree with your statement, but based on your past postings, I feel this one is atypical of your usual well-thought out posts.
Monetary support is based on personal choice and personal values.
Check going out today, as I feel the charges are probably going to be more weak than before. And it will provide another opportunity to see Shapiro or Steere, et al, put their foot in mouth or perjure. That may be worth it just for that!

Hey everybody - it is requested that people DO NOT DONATE ONLINE as there is a tight deadline and the person with access to the PayPal account is on vacation (I read this on another list from very credible sources and others will back me up on this shortly) -- that is why they are requesting CHECK contributions as stated in Dr Jones' letter.
Here is the address from Dr Jones' letter:

Shosty, Your post is so offensive and wrong, I cannot put my disgust into words.
If Dr Jones saved just ONE more child, but that child were YOUR child, I bet you would eat your words, and then hopefully vomit them all over yourself as they are so rancid.
My son has his first appt with Dr Jones in mid September. If he were to simply give it up, as you suggest, MY child will probably never be well.
My child is only one; in "Under Our Skin" we see Dr Jones sees 5 - 10 NEW PATIENTS A DAY.
That is an AWFUL lot of kids who will have a shot at a better quality of life thanks to Dr. Jones.
Oh, and failing health? He has an arthritic knee because he was a super jock. You call a limp failing health????? Do you know something we don't know?
THANK YOU so much to everyone here who has contributed. I am very short on money right now, but reading your post, Shosty, has made me decide to go write a $50 check even if it means another bill goes unpaid.
You should be ashamed of yourself and embarrassed that you authored such a vile post.

I've been informed that Dr Jones defense is asking for CHECKS not paypal, at the following address:
HOW TO DONATE TO THE LEGAL DEFENSE FUND:
Make Donations payable to: "Pullman & Comley Trust Account-for Dr. Charles Jones" Mail to: Elliott B. Pollack c/o Pullman & Comley, LLC 90 State House Square Hartford, CT 06103-3702
Note "gift" in the memo field
Apparently, the person with access to the paypal account is away on vacation, and the money can't be used until that person returns with the code. For immediate use of the money, they need it in checks to above address.
This YouTube site, featuring Dr. Jones in an excerpt from "Under Our Skin," was created by Andy Abrahams Wilson (creator of the documentary itself) - in an effort to help Dr. Jones meet a critical, imminent fundraising deadline to retain his legal defense team. This is a wonderfully generous act on the part of Andy and Open Eye Productions!
Dear Folks,
We've created a YouTube site with an excerpt from UNDER OUR SKIN featuring Dr. Jones. There is information at the end of the clip and in the description on YouTube about how to donate. Please feel free to distribute widely! The site can be accessed at www.YouTube.com/DefendLymeDoctors
Hope this helps! Andy

This is a time of absolute crisis in the Lyme community, when all that matters is helping Dr. Jones NOW, before it is too late.
If your house was on fire and you were trying to save your kids and pets, you would not waste your breath or time arguing with the bystander who keeps blocking your path to tell you that there is no such thing as fire.
Personally, I have been on the phone non-stop with everyone i know BEGGING for them to help.
Time is running out...

Dilly, you are a saint. You are so awesome. Here is the email I sent to everyone I know:
*******************************************
I am sending this email with an urgent request from my heart; I am begging everyone I know to PLEASE SEND AT LEAST $10
to help save this Pediatric Lyme Doctor.
Normally I would not ask people to send money for something, but this is SO important I can only hope that you will do this. PLEASE.
This YouTube short video that explains it for the most part, but the bottom line is that Dr, Jones is the ONLY pediatric lyme disease doctor in the country, and without raising a lot of money we are going to lose him.
Lyme Disease is a highly politicized illness, unfortunately, and I know it is confusing. He is facing frivolous charges before the medical board in CT, and you know what they say; "the accusation alone will kill you."
He is a savior of thousands of children, and desparately needs financial support now to continue to practice, and to continue his fight.
Please, please help. Today is my birthday. I would consider this the best birthday present anyone could give if you would just send a check to the Dr. Jones fund.
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
-Tracy

I think it is safe to assume that Dr. Jones has not yet raised $90,000, much less the full $200,000 he must have.
I reached his attorney directly first try and was able to ask him all the questions I had. As I understand things, Dr. Jones is not allowed to answer questions about the legal fund; anyone with a question about how much has been raised, etc. probably contact Pollack's office directly.

My mom just wrote us to say she just mailed a check for $300 to the Dr Jones Fund. She also just watched Under Our Skin and could not believe that this is happening here to all of us.
Otherwise send out emails to your friends and family if you have any left.

I put my check in the mailbox today; it's my third contribution in all. The problem is, it probably won;''t arrive in Hartford on Monday; maybe Tuesday. I'd like to tell Attorney Pollack's office that my check may arrive on Tuesday but won't meet the Monday deadline. I'd like them to include my amount in their total a day in advance. How can i contact them to tell them this? Thanks, ---pamois.

I just wrote a check and will mail it tomorrow.
How frustrating for Jones! I hope there are some wealthier patients out there who will write big checks to make up for the smaller ones!!
I wonder if Pollack and co. will truly stop defending him if all the money doesn't come in?? This would be tragic. I don't want those *******s to win, especially when the researchers at Columbia are so close to break-thrus with genetics/DNA that will illuminate truths about the disease that run contrary to what the evil doers assert.
When I saw Shapiro and Wormser at the trial in the audience, it made me SICK and enraged. This thing is so PERSONAL, so personally vindictive.

Anneke-
Jones' attys really will stop defending him if they can't be paid- they have to.
like everyone else, they have bills to pay and families to support and obligations that don't go away just because there is a hugely important battle going on.
from speaking to Dr. Jones and Mr. Pollack directly I can tell you that Jones' legal team is deeply committed to helping and defending him.
I have no doubt at all that the possibility of not being able to defend Dr. Jones anymore genuinely hurts Mr. Pollack.
I hope i am right about what seems to be happening-- that a tide of contributions is heading up that way..
none of us are wealthy and most of us are broke, but hopefully, hopefully, what we have sent and are sending will be enough to keep hope alive for awhile longer, even if it is not quite enough of what was required.
most of all, i pray that Dr. Jones understands we are all actively doing our best, and that he knows he is not alone in this time of his great need, as he has not allowed us or our children to feel alone when we needed him most.
hoping and praying...
