i have read on here that steroids are terrible for lyme but if taken with abx, can be ok.
my mother's vertigo symptom is horrific so slowing this symptom down is vital for her recovery.
can anyone offer insight on using them safely to reduce inflammation?

Steroids have a place in Lyme Disease, but it's a very small tiny place. In emergency care, or in a situation where it's necessary to use Steroids, a Lyme Literate Doctor working in conjunction with whoever is prescribing the steroids -- adjustments can be made in the aggressiveness of the treatment to prevent the infection from taking new ground during short term steroid use.
There are various forms of Steroids which are safer at some times, such as topic forms that aren't absorbed -- but even these, should be consulted with your LLMD first.

This is like the 3rd post with the same basic question today. What, is there a sale on steroids at the local market ?
Be sure to look for the others threads, but Metallic Blue pretty much says it. Even with topical creams or localized injections, consult your LLMD.

Hey ! Seems you posted one similar thread today.
If you need to change the title of a thread to be more precise, you can edit that - just go into the edit function and retype the title to make changes.
If you want more replies and need to bump it up to the top, just add a sort note asking for more replies.
For most of is here, it's very time consuming - and hard on the hands - to make full replies, so if you can keep a topic to one thread, it makes it more streamlined - and easier to keep track of.
Here's your other thread with details as to why steroids are such a concern - and it answers the question: are they ever safe? I assume you still mean (for someone with lyme or TBD?):

As for your mother's vertigo:
Does she have lyme?
Is she being treated by a LLMD?
Has she taken ginger tea or ginger capsules? Ginger has been know to help.
Has she been evaluated not only by a LLMD but also a lyme literate vestibular specialist ? That said, inner ear docs seem to be very fond of steroids.
I can tell you though, that if a person's vertigo is caused by lyme, steroids can create a disaster unless an expert LLMD has a hand in the treatment. As Lily mentioned above, for acute situations, proper treatment can be life-saving.
There are MANY causes of vertigo. Some may be connected to lyme; some are not.
If lyme is successfully treated, the inflammation will decrease.
Vertigo is a terrible symptom - I hope she finds some relief soon. It's good of you to search for her. I hope she is being treated for the underlying CAUSE.
And be sure to have her check all her meds and over the counter products as a side-effect of many meds is vertigo.
