Substitution of manganese for iron is also important in the bacterial pathogen Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease.
The B. burgdorferi genome project has revealed the absence of iron-containing membrane proteins and annotated genes encoding proteins such as superoxide dismutase that are predicted to contain manganese rather than iron.
The absence of iron and iron-containing proteins is proposed to allow B. burgdorferi to survive in a host that restricts iron, an action that normally limits microbial growth and thus prevents infection.

"Current dogma states that to be successful in humans, bacteria must overcome strict iron limitations that the human body imparts on them. Although iron is abundant in humans, the amount of free iron is well below the levels required to support the growth of most bacteria.
To our surprise, we found that B. burgdorferi doesn't even require iron. In fact, iron is extremely toxic to it."

Far infrared, at the 880nM wavelength appears to trigger COX-1 -> HO-1 release.
HO-1 is a heat shock protein.
then -> release of Fe bound...and Fe destroys Bb.
This wavelength provides just enough heat to trigger the release of a critical protein, but not so much to destroy this protein.

So, either use an 880 device (there seem to be other ones besides the German one, which we can't get shipped to us in the US, unfortunately) or consume more iron? Sparkle found and is using an effective US one that has 880 frequency, right?
Must be careful of iron overdose. Maybe bloodwork every month or so to check iron levels?
I don't think you can overdo iron via food. It would have to be a supplement that would run a risk of overdose, but can you get enough iron to damage lyme from food?

Marnie, I find what you wrote about the sodium channel at the end interesting. I've noticed that taking Klonopin (an anticonvulsant drug) generally gives me a brief, but marked, reduction in cognitive symptoms.
Does clonazepam (Klonopin) exert its anticonvulsant effect by blocking the sodium channel? Could it be that one of the ways in which Borrelia causes cognitive dysfunction is by stimulating overexcitation of neurons? Did you mean to imply that activating COX-1 has the collateral benefit of stopping excitotoxicity in addition to releasing iron into the blood?
You'll have to excuse me if these are stupid questions. I know almost nothing about biochemistry.

What is the role of zinc in all of this. Does zinc get displaced in any way to cause some of the fatigue and poor sleep patterns many lymies get. I suspect zinc is another constituent metal getting displace. If I'm not mistaken zinc is important in generating seratonin.

But taking high level's of Iron ( If you don't need it won't work )
And of course we know would be dangerous.

Here is a very simple way to activate Lyme Disease. Take an antibiotic, 5 days later, begin doing some mild "exertion" activities that trigger symptoms. Add 1000mg of Magnesium (Oxide is fine), watch symptoms flare intensely. Lower the dose of the antibiotic for 1 week to half dose.
The flare-up will continue inspite of antibiotics. Borrelia Burgdorferi has an extreme affinity for this particular mineral, requiring it to perform vital functions.
Increase the antibiotic back up a week later. I would not attempt this if you're very weak or extremely sick -- this is more along the lines of something for patients who are sick, but stable enough to take a beating.
The infection activates, as a result of the immune system lowering during the exertion. The antibiotic then attacks, then the magenisium forces them to "choose" in a sense, to chase the magenisium, causing a much heavier die off, as many more bacteria persish as a consequence of increasing the antibiotic again, and the immune response coming back.

The beginning of that article also say's that ( Iron is extremely toxic to Bb. )
Bb may have evolved by eliminating the requirement of Iron, but restricted Iron allows Bb to survive in Host. As stated in other article.
Extra Iron won't help if you have normal level's as I stated. But what if you have low level's ????
This may then create a more suitable environment for it. !!!!!! That's how I understand it anyway. Did you miss the first bit of the article you quote ?????

It's very confusing to me. I don't really know.
If one part of this says that extra iron is good to take to get rid of Lyme but the conclusion of the article ends in saying it doesn't matter - it's a bit hard to comprehend.
I'm no scientist...
I guess I have to study more.

Looks like someone is trying to justify IV Mg to "wake up the bacteria".
That is not the case.
As ATP is made, Bb would prefer Mn over Mg, but WE need Mg-ATP. In high enough doses, Mg will displace Mn (and even Zn).
