I went into anaphylactic shock on Tuesday after an Iron IV. I rushed to the ER and they gave me steroids because my throat was closing up, I had welts and hives all over my body, etc.

It was 100% necessary...life or death situation. My question is, is there anything I should do now to prevent a total Lyme flare from the steroids?

I had 2 steroid epidurals last year and that was what made me SO sick. I'd like to avoid it.

Yes, keep your antibiotics at highest, yet safest, dose you can tolerate. Usually combination therapy with antibiotics, is useful, after steroid use/or during it's use.

Yes, make sure you are taking abx. Also, taper the steroids as soon as you can ... or were you just given a shot and now off of them??

I'm very happy you are still with us!!!! [group hug]

Relax. Glad the ER saved your life. That's beyond essential, I'd say.

Just call the LLMD who is treating you - s/he would want to know about what has happened and also to consider adjustments in your protocol.

I was given something IV (steroids) and a few breathing treatments with steroids in them.

I'm not on anything for the reaction now, except benadryl.

I called my LLMD, waiting to hear back.
