I have read that 200 mg BID is a good starting place for doxy. My doc, who treats Lyme, but is not a true LLMD did start me on doxy, but he is suggesting 100 mg BID. When I questioned that, he snickered (Yes, really) and said he reads the same things I do. But that he only has ever had 2 patients who could handle that dose. He did agree that I could start at 200MG per day and work up to 300 then 400 if I could handle it.

My LLMD appointment is not until end of August and I don't want to waste this month!! I took 200 mg this morning for the first time. I'm feeling yucky but hanging in there. Yes, I take it with a meal.

Does everyone feel yucky when they go up on doxy? Does your body get used to it? Do many people find they cannot tolerate oral doxy?

Thanks!!
Carol

It's pretty rough stuff! If you have trouble, ask him for Doryx. It's a name brand doxy that truly is easier on the stomach.

I went from 100 BID to 200 Bid with absolutely no problem. Yes, you can feel it working on CNS more but, that is what you have to do.

Just remember eat with your dosage and I mean not just crackers . do not eat dairy or take supplements vitamins 2 hr. before of after and definitely do not lay down an hour afterwards.

You probably know this already but I like to remind everyone.

I think the anticipation of it is worse than how it is going to be. Your body does get used to it. Teresa [Wink]

Great to hear from real people, not just words in a book. Thanks so much!

Jay, what did you take for Babs?

Teresa, thanks for the info that the body is able to adjust!! I was hoping.

Lymetoo, hoping I don't have to go brand (no insurance for drugs) but the info is good to know!

I started on 400 mg Doxy daily when I still had my 'rash'. 200 mg in am and pm...no problems.

I did take it more than a few times first thing in the morning on a very empty stomach with nothing more than a large coffee - not a great plan. Got pretty nausesous 2-3 times but never 'lost it'.

went thru 6 weeks of the stuff without any real issues except I missed my daily drink, time in the sun and trying to find something non dairy related for breakfast was tough + I love ice cream in the evening so had to make sure I spaced the doxy out accordingly.

One caveat...I am 6'7" and 260lbs so 400 mg on me might be different than 400 mg on you. I did ask my LLMD if I should take more than 400 mg but she said my kidneys were the same as anyone else and therefore I should not take more Doxy than nayone else.

Good luck - it is not that bad...you can do it! Start counting the days until you are finished and can enjoy a dairy based alcoholic drink on a bright sunny day.

Thanks again. I was glad to have such good feedback when I went to move higher on the does. So far 300 and next step 400!

cheart... The Doryx is rather pricey. Hope you don't have to do that.

mark.. I hope you stopped the ice cream while on abx. You're setting yourself up for yeast!

Lymetoo-

What did you mean about the yeast?

I take 400mg Doxy and 1000mg Flagyl everyday. Is it the sugar or the dairy that you think is bad? I am still new to this...

Migs,

You need to be taking things for your gut flora. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections. You should be on a good Probiotic and take extra.

Lymetoo was saying that ice cream has sugar, and too much sugar, or sugar in general FEEDS yeast. You want to avoid sugars and simple carbs: white flour, white rice, white bread, pasta. etc.

Some people have an awful time with yeast and avoid almost everything but protien and veggies...like Lymetoo.

At the least, avoid sugars and simple carbs.

Yeast infection can cause the SAME symptoms as Lyme, so be very aware, and take your probiotics!

Hope this helps,
Feelfit

Feelfit - Thanks.

I didn't know the causes but I heard about yeast. It's going to be hard not to starve do death now too. Thanks for the tips.

If this is a relatively new infection, you should be on 400/day.

Anything less and there's a good chance your case

will become chronic.
