I've posted many times about my 2 sons with pseudo-tumor cerebri (intracranial hypertension). They had severe, unrelenting headaches since at least 1999. The only thing that would relief some of the pain was lumbar punctures (LPs). They needed LPs about every 3 months and they (& my husband & I) decided it was time for shunting.
Jordan (17) had a LP shunt placed in April and Jake (22) had a VP shunt placed in May.
Their headaches are better and they are happy they have the shunts. The decrease in their headaches have made a big difference. Before the shunt, Jake was not able to be out of bed for more than 15 minutes at a time. Now he can be up all day.
They have programmable shunts and they are currently set at 180 & 140. The shunts can be adjusted to get the best setting.
Their neurosurgeon believes their PTC is from untreated Lyme disease. I'm seeing more documentation that PTC can be caused by Lyme disease.
