Last year, I had a standard mri on the brain as I was having headaches. At the time, I did not know I had lyme. The result was normal.
Now my LLMD has ordered a SPECT MRI which I understand measures flow.
Does a standard MRI show anything for lyme, or do most folks get an SPECT Brain MRI. Which ones show lesions? Is a Spect better for Lyme and co infections

MRI can show the effect of Lyme but unfortunately the effects seen are not specific to Lyme(typically "white" lessions). A spect is a different proceedure (and different machine) that measures blood flow in the brain. With Lyme this is often reduced due to microscopic inflamation(encephalopathy). SPECT (single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) can see this effect very clearly.
