Just want to get a consensus from the members here...
My bart herxes last twice as long and a little more severe, what about everyone else?

I find the bart herxes the most painful. When bart gets going the deep bone pain & deep muscle is awful. Yes, they seem to last longer. I find them to come in shorter cycles also.

My bart herxes have always included profound fatigue. Like I can't get out of bed, end up sleeping most of the day. Lyme herxes were much kinder to me!

How do you know a lyme herx vs. a bart herx? I have been in treatment for 3 1/2 months. I just seem to be herxing. I thought that I had figured out a pattern, but now I am not certain.

If you are using a Bart abx, then you know it is a Bart herx. It can be hard to tell if you are on abx for both.

Byron,
What symptoms are you experiencing with a bart herx?
How does someone know it is a herx and not a med side effect?

Curious as to which tests you had done for Bart -- do you have other positive tests besides a Fry slide? Also curious as to which antibiotics you are on for Bart?
I am not sure if hubby ever actually had Bart -- think he might just have the mystery bug. But I do think it responds somewhat to Bart meds.

Difference between a herx and a side effect/reaction...
A reaction "most of the time" sets in right after taking the ABx, I've not heard of anyone herxing within minutes of taking an ABx and I have been around alot of lyme patients (over 60)
A herx usually sets in later and causes an increase in symptoms that you have from the illness. The hard part is, sometimes new symptoms will come up when you are starting treatment or switching antibiotics...

I tested positive for Bart on the Fry smear and antibodies, along with mycoplasma, but that is gone now.
I don't have my nice camera with me but my fry smear is slowly looking better and better, the cells are getting better form, less biofilm, less are touching each other, and the bart is out in the open more and not so much on the inside of the red blood cells.

Glad to hear you are seeing progress, Byron.
IV Vanco would cause a Bart or Lyme herx?

I have the headache, fatigue, body aches that one might expect with a Bart Herx.
But something interesting has started happening. I've been having profound night sweats again.
In the past, these have disappeared with Babs tx.
So, I looked up the side effects for Rifampin.
Didn't say anything about sweats.
Liver enzymes and kidney function o.k.
So guess most anything can get "riled" up.
Watch labs and detox.

I would love to know what I am herxing from. Azithrmycin for instance, has effects on lyme as bart and a little on babs. As with Spetra/bactrim. Not to speak about stuff like Imipinem etc.
Having profound night sweats again, but who knows, is it ALWAYS babesia? Mt LLMD says it could just as well be lyme.
I wish we could find answers!
Keep up the good work Byron, great to read your reports!
