I'm starting Rifampin with doxycycline after 3 months on a rocephin IV.
I was wondering what effects it produces and how much doxycycline you can use; I suppose to take 400mg.
What were your experiences and did your doctor combine Rifampin with anything else? Please let me know!

Hi.
Yes, when I was on Rifampin, I was on Biaxin and Doxy as well.
I didn't really have any side effects. Just the herx.
Oh, Rifampin turns the majority of people's urine a dark or bright orange, so don't be worried about that...
Good luck!

I tried Rifampin with Minocin which is close to Doxy (maybe just a tad more potent.) I had no side effects other than orange urine. The combo made me feel GREAT!

My daughter took IV Rifampin w/ IV Doxycycline, this treatment would have been great, had she been able to tolerate the full doses of the meds. I think the highest we got was 200mg of Doxy, 150 of Rifampin. The herx's were intense. Hope it works for you!

I was on 600 mg rifampin and 400 mg doxy iv for a while this summer. (About 1 1/2 months) This was a 10 hour total infusion time.
I had to drop the rifampin-just made me very sick. (herx?)I tried to stick it out, but my digestive system had enough. I continued on the doxy w/out problems for a total of 5 months.
I'm now off ivs, and am taking oral Leviquin for my Bart among other things...
Hope all works well for you-we are all different-all you can do is try

Yes I did that combo for 9.5 months. Helped a lot but takes a long time. Get your peak and trough levels of doxy checked, bc Rifampin interacts with it and takes the levels down. You may have to go up on the doxy to compensate for Rifampin's taking it down.

Been on both since I started treatment in September 400 doxy, 600 rifampin, 250 zith. I don't seem to have noticable side effects. I worry about rifampin lessening my sleep drugs. I am getting better SLOWLY.

Sorry, I'm new to all this--what is rifampin and doxy used for?

I am on Rifampin and Levaquin right now, just started on Thursday. So far, so good. Not messing with my stomach. For those who have use Rifampin, is it a slow recovery? I think I was thinking it would be more like taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection - where you almost feel instant relief. I am being patient as I know this will take time. But I am hopeful about these meds. Very hopeful.

It treats Bartonella, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, RMSF, possibly has an effect on Mycoplasma, it's a good combo.
