I've had lyme for 7 years and just started treating October 2008.
Shouldn't we assume I have cysts?
Or is there a way to tell?
Thank you

I am not a LLMD, but from what I have read I would think that if a person isn't getting better and isn't on a cyst busting med, than that could be one reason why...among others, such as undiagnosed or untreated coinfections.
My LLMD started me on 3 meds, one of which is a cyst buster...plaquenil.

When you start on antibiotic treatment for lyme, the lyme goes into the cyst form to protect itself from the antibiotic.
Then, when it senses you have stopped antibiotic treatment, it comes out of the cyst and continues on.
So, my 3rd and final lyme doc started me on 2 antibiotics, one of which was a cyst buster... flagyl.
I've been off meds nearly 4 years and symptom-free!

Yes. IMO, Whether or not you should treat them is something you'll want to really think about, though. On the one hand, there's Dr. McDonald implicating them in Alzheimer's, and on the other, there are the facts that you'll never be truly free of them and that the treatment for them can be very damaging, neurologically.

I have been under treatment for over 6 months and do not feel anywhere normal yet but have seen some improvement in my feet. I only did two weeks of flagyl as a cyst buster but I'll start another round next week. Flagyl is scary stuff, but I figure I need it if I am ever going to get better. I wonder for how long one must take Flagyl or another cyst buster to get better.
TF, do you recall noticing a major difference once you started with a cyst buster?

I have a microscope and see many cysts or at least before I did. I think cysts are just another form of lyme...I think there like eggs too, where the hatchlings emerge from.

TF, Have you written a success story?? I would love to read it!
Can you tell me why "Flagyl is scary stuff" ? My LLMD started me on this 3 weeks ago. One week ago he added minocycline.

My LLMD is trying Grapefruit seed extract as a cyst buster, but I have not had a herx on it so I am uncertain if I can avoid Flagyl in the end. Anyone have an idea if the GSE can do it alone? I would like to hear experiences about that.

Does anyone know if the cysts can be seen?? I have about 5 cysts that I can see and feel as I touch them.
I actually had one taken out before I knew I had lyme, and the Derm said it was a Fatty Cysts. Could these actually be lyme cyst? I have had the for a long time, but I don't think I had them before Lyme. ??

As to GSE causing herxes. I took it over the summer and when I did I herxed but hadn't tested for lyme yet. I believe this is what brought on my facial ticks and numbness, red floaters/waves in my vision and flashing lights in my peripheral vision. Prior to that I did not have those problems. I was infected in April 2002.
I think w/o doing it I would probably not have tested positive for it. Some ppl have it for so long their test is negative when actually they have it. THis is just my gut feeling.
I'm not sure if this actually busts cysts or not but it does clean your blood and your gut. If you have parasites this will help as well. While I was taking it in the summer about 3 weeks in the above symptoms started and parasites came out of me too. That was oh so gross.

The lyme cysts can only be seen under a high powered microscope.
The dictionary says a cyst is a spherical, usually thick membrane, resistant to freezing, drying, etc. with which certain organisms are surrounded when in a resting stage. So the lyme bacteria is not the only organism that can protect itself by going into a cyst (round) form.
This is totally different from the cysts people and animals get that are visible to the eye and are usually cut open or cut out to remove.

For me Flagyl did something crazy...couldn't move my neck or bend over for days. My lower back was shredding with any bend forward. Everything was popping like bubble pack in my joints and I couldn't finish a sentence without forgetting the next word.
I was like "oh...what?...what was I...did...hmmm...forget it?" for days.

Hi Brite. I took mine on an empty stomach with no problems. You can take with food. I took 4 per day. I started with one and worked up to 4.
If on abx you will have to wait 3-4 hours prior to taking because you can't even eat citrus with abx.
Take care.

What do you mean, you have to wait 3-4 hours? 3-4 hours till what?
No citrus????? My LLMD never mentioned that, only no dairy with doxy. All other abx, I had no restricitons other than I must take with food because too many people get sick on an empty stomach. I eat plenty of grapefuits and never heard about the abx/citrus thing! I also take extra vit. C.

Hi Rich. Look up your particular abx online. Some of them you definitely can't eat dairy. My bactrim has a warning about citrus. It will upset your stomach and further grapefruit inhibits abx getting into system.

Maybe to play it safe I'll avoid citrus, vitamin C and dairy within two hours of taking abx. Would that suffice?
