Hi, I have not posted in a while because I am happy to say that after being on Ceftin/Azithromycin and then Doryx for five months (Lyme for 3 years pus) I feel pretty good! Although I am off antibiotics, I would like to take the most effective natural antibiotic with the least adverse effects. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

I like the Buhner core herbs - andrographis, resveratrol, samento, and banderol.

I would say raw garlic juiced and then 10-40 drops (Starting low at 5 is best, the herxheimer reaction will be serious otherwise.)

This way is not cost effective, but it's extremely potent. Eating cloves is "meh" in my opinion compared to juicing the Garlic. Dr. Zhang's Garlic is the next best thing I think.

I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better and have the hardest part behind you.

Yes, I, too, am a big fan of andrographis as part of Buhner. And, I think very highly of Zhang's work as well. The hepapro allicin is the very best of all - and I've tried them all.

I would not advise anything alone but only as a part of a well-thought-out protocol as most herbs require a balanced formula to do their best work.

It's important to read the entire book(s) so that you know the benefits and cautions of each herb and then begin each one separately for at least a day or two so that you can see how you do.

For instance, andrographis can increase fatigue, especially at first, so planning ahead helps. Or - if you choose Zhang's protocol, you'd want to get all around you to start eating a Mediterranean diet, full of garlic, so that you blend in.

You can also check on the research sites below to learn more about some herbs and supplements.

Best of luck.

If you have a LL ND near you, that would be best so that you can have individualized care. Acupuncture is also very helpful as a support - it can help the herbs work better.

While intended as support and not primary therapy, some of the supplements here are essential for lyme patients.

Why would you want to use any antibiotic, pharmaceutical or otherwise if you are feeling good? Bacteria of many types is a very important part of your normal, healthy body - especially in the intestinal tract.

If you have beaten down the harmful bacteria in your system, then abx should be something to stay away from - the harm to helpful bacteria in your system is a risk.

Abx can be life savers, and they should be used as long as needed, but I would say stay away from them unless they are needed.

Unfortunately, for some Lyme infections, they may be needed indefinitely.

Due to the life-cycle of borrelia, it's important to have combination coverage for at least 30 weeks, according to one of the authors above.

Some doctors believe it's important to treat for a certain number of months beyond feeling good to be certain that the life-cycle and forms have been addressed.

While some bacteria can live in harmony with our bodies, the lyme bacteria is not of that type. It is never a good thing.
