Hey Guys,
I haven't been on here for a couple of years. I recently started IV rocephin at home and when I went to start it today, it had a strong terrible smell. I never noticed a smell before. Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks,
Deb

Feelfit, is Rocephin easier to tolerate this time around than before? [Smile]

Yes, my daughter gets IV Rocephin and always says it has a funny smell. When she flushes she gets a strange salty taste in her mouth.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll call the infusion company as well and see what they say.

I do get the funny taste in my mouth, but never noticed such a strong smell before.

MY3BOYS, I definately understand the head pressure, headaches, nausea and funny little pains here and there. Day 13 of 28 and counting...

I've been doing it closer to bedtime hoping to sleep through that part of it, but it seems I wake up with a headache.

It smells like cat pee on a nettle. Not joking, that's what it smells like to me. [Smile]

Yes, Rocephin does smell like cat urine! Luckly it is not as strong smelling as the real thing:) I only smell it when i'm infusing the medication.

DJP, did you call your infusion company? What did they say about the strong odor? It concerns me because I don't think that mine has a strong odor. My family says that they cannot smell the medication even if i'm sitting right next to them while infusing.

Please take care:)

It does smell like cat urine! That is exactly how I described it.
I called the nurse and she called the home infusion pharmacy and they didn't know why it would have such a strong smell and they said not to use it.
I just got a new batch delivered so I'll see what happens tonight.
I'm wondering if my sense of smell is being affected by the treatment and things smell stronger.
I do seem to being having issues with lights and sounds similiar to when I was first sick. I just attributed it to the meds killing off the bugs in my brain.
I had my husband smell it one night and he said he didn't smell anything and then last night I did have my 7 year old smell it and she did react as if it was a strong, "yucky" smell.
