I was wondering if you throw away the bottle after expiration date? I did not realize that the 10 day dose of it would have an expiration of 10 days, and we filled it.
We wanted to fill it and have him muscle tested for allergies before taking it, however, we aren't giving it to him until after his appointment with the cardiologist on May 18. This Zithromax says it expires on May 16.
Can we not use it then???
I wish we hadn't filled it, had no idea it would be like that.
I would call the pharmacy and ask them if it is really expired. I'm guessing it just automatically gave it an expiration date of when you were supposed to be done with it.

Because it is in liquid form it does expire quickly. The pharmacy will tell you 10-14 days. Our doc told us that you might be able to go about 18-20 days... after that it will lose its effectiveness. It's also very important to keep it at the right temperature!

Hmmm,
Yes this is what I thought too, mine always expires in a year. But it clearly says May 16, 2009.
I know the pharmacy has to mix it there, right?? Not sure if it will start to break down after that amount of time, but that sounds very strange to me. I don't know.
Ah ha! We got 2 bottles (insurance at first would only give enough for 5 days, so I went back later after they spoke with the insurance company to pick the rest of it up) and the other bottle says that it expires 5/04/2010!
I bet the pharmacist accidently put in the ten day thing.
OK, I will call the pharmacy and clarify. Whew!! I think it's OK.

Yes, liquid form has a short life. We were told 14 days.
On your next refill, you might want to opt for capsule form which can be opened and mixed into food--good option for those who can't swallow pills. The capsule form also eliminates the red dye and sugars that are present in the liquid form. I haven't checked the expiration date on the capsules, but I'm assuming it's a year out.

Ocean:
Every 10 days we throw out the bottle and go back to the pharmacy for the RX.
The pharmacist had mentioned that the shelf life after being mixed is short.
So they cannot give us a 30 day supply but three 10 day supplies.
We don't chance it...
Hope that helps!
