I started taking Zithromax (generic) last week - have taken about 5 doses of a high daily dose. I'm not sure I can post the dose on here but it is pretty standard treatment. I am having some ringing in my ears that is not constant - more like it comes and goes. Each time it comes, it lasts only a short time. I have heard that this med can cause this. I have taken it before at a lower dose and never had any problems. I also took Biaxin without ear trouble. I am about to start Mepron for babesia treatment. Has anyone pulsed Zithromax while on Mepron or taken a lower dose of it? Or should I possibly be getting off it altogether? I am going to call the LLMD tomorrow - just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks so much. [ 05-15-2009, 10:04 AM: Message edited by: opus2828 ]

I had to stop taking zith due to ear ringing. What started as transient ear ringing became constant. Switched to biaxin and other than the nasty mouth taste, Did just fine with it. Hugs, Geneal

Thanks Geneal. I did fine on Biaxin so I'll ask the doc about this.

My ears started ringing while on Zith, and continued for awhile even when I stopped all abx. It took about 6 months for it to go away completely. When I had it, it came and went like yours. I also took Mepron, while on Zith for about 9 months. I have been off all abx for about 3 years, and am doing fine.

KH - it's good to know that the ringing did eventually stop and that treatment was successful! I am waiting to hear back from the LLMD's office.

LLMD's nurse told me to try a lower dose of Zithromax and if that worked out okay for a few days, then to take it twice a day. If not good, then it's on to Biaxin.
