I know this board gets these questions all the time. So, here is another.

I started levaquin three days ago and today was hell. I went to work and my ( calf )leg muscles ached so bad, the soles of my feet hurt really bad also, and I was extremely fatigued. My muscled were terribly sore. Im only taking 250mg a day right now, but will move up to 500mg if this stuff eases up a little. Does this sound like a normal herx from levaquin and a bart die off????

I would guess a reaction indicating you need to cease this drug ASAP to not have tendon damage.

That can definitely be a herx from the Levaquin - I experienced the same. Are you taking it for Bartonella?

I herxed terribly from Levaquin. Since calf muscle pain and sore soles are bart symptoms, so is fatigue, I would guess it's a herx.

Levaquin can cause extreme muscle pain. My docotr warned that I would probably hurt like heck from it. If you can stand it, he says it usually helps big time.

Watch for tendon pain....that you do not want. Also loading up on magnesium has seemed to help in avoiding the tendon issue.

I was routinely given Levaquin for the "mystery infection" that never goes away. I started having a lot of muscle pain and becoming increasingly uncomfortable from the medication. One day I had a horrendous allergic reaction from it and nearly died from it. I was suspicious that the initial muscle pain etc. was an odd sign of an allergic reaction waiting to happen. Could be coincidence, but I'd be careful with the stuff.

I'm confused about Bartonella. Does it cause muscle pain or muscle TIGHTNESS or both? What's the more prominent symptom?

I ask because I don't have pain, but suffer terribly w/tight muscles that feel like a rubber band squeezing, especially after using them.

Tendon damage is not a herx and can happen quickly with this antibiotic. Be aware.

It appears that there are other less dangerous antbiotics that have better outcomes in treating Bartonella.
