I have been in treatment for two years. Currently on biaxin, plaquenil, omnicef, malarone, and pulsed art. Also a low dose of Lexapro and 3mg/Lunesta.Thyroid meds as well.

I have tested positive for babesia, clinical lyme diagnosis and positive for Clongen mystery bug.

Beginning two months ago (same meds except amoxi in place of omnicef)I began to be increasingly hungry. Not ravenous, but hungry ALOT. Stay hungry after eating.

This happened a long time ago, but my thyroid was out of whack. It's fine now.

The past week, if I let myself get at all hungry, some of my symptoms-fatigue, neuropathy, heavy arms and legs, headache, anxiety and fogginess increase dramatically. I see my doc in two weeks, not terribly worried but I am curious about whether or not any of you have experienced this?

Any ideas? Thanks for any thoughts
Kris

I have noticed that if I don't eat something as soon as I feel hungry, my sx do seem to increase--

for me it's especially the air hunger and weakness.

No idea what it means, though.

Yes, I have had increased hunger at times...my thyroid is controlled and my blood sugar is fine so I have had a hard time pinpointing the prob...

I don't seem to have any digestive issues either. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the body is looking for more fuel to counter the pathogens. This may be especially true where babs is concerned because it depletes iron...other than that...not sure...

How long have you been on the Lexapro and what do you consider a low dosage. All SSRIs have honeymoon period where they work great, then they go bad, they start screwing up the homestasis of all the neurotransmitters in your brain, especially if your CSN/Brain is compromised by the lyme and cos Also they are notorious for making people crave carbs, overeating and gaining weight. Unless you have severe depression you'd be better off not on lexapro, look up lexapro withdrawal syndrome, if you think lyme is bad you have no idea what your in store for.

Seroquel caused this for my daughter...SEVERE carb craving at night, and, we suspect, sleep eating.

I go through periods of being ravenously hungry! It drives me mad! Thank goodness it goes away.

Not sure what causes it though? It happens to my mom and my younger son too. We all have Lyme.

Losferwrds, Kelmo and Co.

2.5 mg of lexapro since February. I have worried about it, but it did level off some significant depression. I have actually lost a little weight, about 4 lbs.
Thanks for all the input. I'll discuss the SSRIs with my PCP and LLMD.

Wow, 2.5mg that is a low dosage but everyone reacts differently to meds, and if you lost weight too and its helping your depression thats great.

This is such a complex illness and when you add in multiple meds its difficult for anyone to speculate what could be the cause of alot of symptoms.

Did you ever have any issues with blood sugar, if you go online the makers of glucose test strips will sent you a tester and like 10 strips for free if your inclined to check your glucose. I think they give you the reader for free, cause when it comes time to buy new test strips your jaw will drop at the prices. To get the free sugar tester you just need to answer some questions like your doctor suspects diabetes.
Its a nice thing to have, cause its reassuring to know when your getting weak spells or hunger pangs that your blood sugar is or is not outta wack

Biotoxins which include - borrelia (lyme) and mycotoxins (mold) can cause leptin resistance. Leptin resistance can cuase increased hunger. Treatment or not, if you have lyme or are exposed to mold, you may acquire leptin resistance.

Some think that inflammation is a key player in leptin resistance. We know that biotoxins cause inflammation.

Could also be hypoglycemia or drug side effects as others have said or perhaps other hormonal imbalances.

That's interesting Terry about the leptin resistance.

When my daughter would get that feeling like she wasn't getting full, it seemed to also correlate with a brain/stomach nerve (my guess).

She would sit with a plate of oranges and nibble wheat thins until it went away.

Sometimes, she would take an anti-nausea medication to shut down the hunger signal. Otherwise she would eat until she threw it up.

Hypoglycemia...I have it incredibly bad. My poor husband still doesnt understand that when I say "i need to eat something"...well i need to eat something or ill black out quick...

Maybe Lyme makes this more common? Seems to take form in many other illnesses anyways...

I can so relate. My symptoms of fatigue and malaise come out when I'm hungry.

Overall, I'm feeling better. Just completed the school year. I was out for 2 years.

However, in the last year I've gained 20 lbs. Hungry all the time. When I was really ill and non-functioning I lost weight like crazy.

Go figure.
