Has anyone had a big increase in anxiety as a herx symptom? My anxiety seems to have gone through the roof. I started doxy last Tuesday and Zithro today.
Also, is Bioxin(sp?) as good as Zithro? It is less expensive.
Thanks!

Its a hard call, google the side effects of the abx, I guarantee you will find anxiety as side effect of at least one em.
I am beginning to think the abx cause more symptoms than the disease.
Either that or nearly everyone has lyme and co's and herxs whenever they take abx.

Anxiety increases aldosterone which ultimately lowers serum potassium to
CONSERVE lysine.
That is WHY it is happening.

So Marnie, you are saying Lyme will do anything to keep Lysine at high levels to survive?

You are incorrect -- anxiety is not listed as an adverse effect of either doxycycline or azithromycin.
So its not a tough call, and a massive increase in anxiety after starting either of these antibiotics can be safely considered a herx.

Uh, I don't care what is "listed", I can say without any shadow of doubt that anyone who has lyme disease and treats it with antibiotics WILL be hit with anxiety hardcore as a herx symptom. This was one of my biggest symptoms and when I first began treatment with the exact drugs the original poster is using my anxiety was so bad the first few days I had hours and hours of anxiety bouts. Panic attacks that are so bad I cannot even explain them. I don't know where some of you get this stuff. Of course anxiety can be and is very often a herx symptom.
The good news is if you keep treating effectively, these bouts will space themselves out more and more until you can almost talk yourself through a short bout or burst of anxiety. God Bless. You aren't dying you are on the path to getting well.

Clint: My post was in total agreement with you, I'm not sure if you read it carefully enough.

I am not saying herx reactions do not exist, all I am saying is at some point you have to discern between whats a herx, and whats a med side effect, normally a herx should be followed by a window of well being, not more illness and suffering. This whole concept of killing yourself to get better is wrong, and if thats what you experience then your protocol is flawed and your not properly detoxing.

Yes, when LLMD started me on Doxy, I had great anxiety. Contacted her and she stated it was due to herx. But after a couple of days it went away.

Yes, anxiety is a major herx symptom. It gets better after that.

I really appreciate everyone's opinions on this issue. I am comforted that it is most likely a herx and will subside. I am just in the beginning of my treatment so I'm sure I'll have more symptoms and questions as I add meds.
Thank you,
