Hello, I am so glad to find this site. My 8 year old daughter developed a bulls eye rash around what we believe to be a mosquito bite. This occurred 3 days after hiking in the forest. It is about 2 inches in diameter and is fading today-day 4. I took her to her pediatrician, he assured me that lyme disease takes 3 weeks to develop into a rash, and not to worry since there was no tick observed. He said it was merely a histamine reaction. She has other bites, none which formed this pink ring. I have read the CDC site's statement that the rash appears in 3 to 30 days, so now I am concerned. Should I be worried? Can anyone recommend a local doctor? I am in Lakewood, Wa. Thank you so much.

I agree with Pinelady--
regardless of what your doctor says, a bullseye rash = Lyme disease, and you are right to be concerned.
It is important to get treatment as soon as you can to avoid the hell many on here are going through because of undiagnosed Lyme and coinfections.

Her doctor is ignorant. Find yourself a LLMD as others suggested.
Lyme rashes do NOT have to have a ring.
She does not need to even have a rash to have the disease.
Ticks anesthetize their hosts -- so you do not feel a bite until after-the-fact.
and then, it is after-the-fact, the tick is gone/dropped off.
and they are so tiny that it is mere luck to even observe them.
Get her to treatment as soon as you can. and, as Pinelady stated, take pictures of her rashes!

Get her to another doctor asap. Lyme specialists have waiting lists, so take her to a walk in clinic for immediate meds ... but be sure to see a Lyme doc to be sure it doesn't go chronic.
TAKE PICTURES OF THE RASH!

I found Turn the Corner Foundation through the website for the Under Our Skin movie. Here is the link for their website. At the bottom of their webpage there is a link to click if you are interested in getting help finding and LLMD.
I emailed them for help and got a response with the names of over 10 LLMDS in two states in less than a days time. What an incredible blessing! Thought I'd pass it on. By member Aimee, 7.11.09 ------------------------------------------------------
People seeking doctors might be able to get help from their state online information and support group. Nearly 3,400 people belong to state groups. Some of the groups are small but more than 20 of them have 50 or more people and seven have over 100.
The groups are moderated and you have to apply. Most don't allow doctor names, but once on the group, you can ask for doctors in a certain area and ask people to email you privately. *******************************************
This explains the medical politics around lyme WHY you need an ILADS-educated or ILADS-member LLMD (and there are also some ILADS-member LL NDs (naturopathic doctors):
You should also be evaluated for coinfections. Not all tests are great in that regard, either, but a good LLMD can evaluate you and then guide you in testing. One of the top labs is:
"With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.
Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.
But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.
Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result.
Response to antibiotics is the same if either is positive, or both. Some antibodies against the borrelia are given more significance if they are IgG versus IgM, or vice versa.
Since this is a chronic persistent infection, this does not make a lot of sense to me. A newly formed Borrelia burgdorferi should have the same antigen parts as the previous bacteria that produced it.
But anyway, from my clinical experience, these borrelia associated bands usually predict a clinical change in symptoms with antibiotics, regardless of whether they are IgG or IgM." ===========

My father got Lyme from a mosquito bite - got the bulls-eye on his arm, exactly in the spot he saw the mosquito land on him. This was in San Diego.
I know one patient who goes to the same Lyme doctor I do who got Lyme and other co-infections from a mosquito bite on the East Coast.
Please take it seriously. The doctors will likely say cellulitis or there is no Lyme Disease here or you can't get it from a mosquito, but please don't let them talk you out of what needs to be done.
If you look in even mainstream medical information, a bulls-eye rash is considered diagnostic of Lyme Disease and treatment should be started even before testing is completed.

My heart goes out to you. Treat fast, treat long, treat deep.
Kick it now so you can get it out.
As a mom of two kids with congenital lyme (one who had an obvious reinfection at some point) I wouldn't hesitate to treat as a "precaution" without any confirmed lab tests.
I would NEVER wait 3 -4 weeks to see if symptoms appear.
Hang in there. Keep checking in with this site. Way to go MOM!
