I have air hunger and am wondering if it can also be a Lyme symptom? I have tested negative for babs, and have no night sweats, chills or fever. Thx - Robin

Hi Robin,
I recently tested positive to Babesia Duncani five years into treatment. I had neg and IND Babesia Microti tests many times before.
I've never had any Babesia symptoms. But when I recently began Babesia treatment (conservative treatment, that's all I can handle), I developed air hunger for the first time. The treatment brought it out.
I've never had fevers, sweats, etc. either.
I keep hearing that some Lyme doctors think that Babesia is a gatekeeper - that if a patient isn't getting better, Babesia may be at play. Well, I've gotten worse in many ways in five years of treatment, although likely due to so many coinfections (test positive for many) and inability to tolerate certain meds and herbs. But who knows, it will be interesting to see if Babesia was holding me back.
I know I'm not really answering your question, but just mentioning what's happened with me. Haven't talked to you in a long time - we'll have to catch up!
Take care, Jill

Could you describe what air hunger feels like? I think I get it often - almost like hyperventilating but not quite. I also have daytime sweats, have had low-grade fevers in the past.
Just curious how people describe their air hunger. It's one of my scariest symptoms!

bt, it feels like I can't get a full breath of air in. At least it helps to remember to do some deeper breathing.
But still my Q - can this be due to Lyme?

robin,
yes, it can be a symptom of lyme.
I had 'air hunger' which i will describe as being shortness of breath, feeling like you cant get enough air, or asthma like symptoms. it can be frightening.
it occurred most at night while laying down or with activity such as climbing steps.
after treating for a little while it seemed to subside.
i did not have babs.
