My test came back positive for Hashimoto's. However, I did have low thyroid in the past, but my thyroid levels are normal...but I still have an off the charts rating for Hashimoto's.
I read that it is a big mistake to not treat with anything, even if your thyroid is producing enough hormones. My doctor won't treat me for it..
But my symptoms are still the same as hypothyroid...How do I deal with these sx of these disease if my levels are normal?
Care to share your thyroid stories? Do they treat you if your thyroid is functioning as it should?
I'm getting an u/s done to rule out nodules and the size of my thyroid on the 23rd of this month.

I have Hashimoto's, and have quite a few nodules. About 9 yrs ago I was put on Synthroid and it almost killed me. Until last year I refused any thyroid meds.
I am now on armour thyroid, was 30 mg in am, and 15 mg in afternoon.(a low dose). Since being on it, my nodules haven't grown (have ultrasound every 6 mos to yr).
Just had my yearly and my endo said keeping the tsh low keeps the nodules from growing, so increased it to 30 mg in afternoon. I guess there must be some truth in it, b/c since I have been on meds they haven't grown.

People who have low thyroid can have malabsorbtion
issues. Tests will reveal this but it is also
expensive. And only if you have a good endo who
is smart enough to figure this out from your
results. My endo said no meds within 4 hrs either
way of meds. So I take it first thing am. And go
from there. So you may indeed be producing the
hormone but the cells are not absorbing it. For
what its worth I did 5 months of Colloidal Silver
before testing by Igenex. And now on tx.

Interestingly Hashimotoes and Graves thyroiditis
can cause the thyroid to shrink to nothing. Goiter
disease will cause it to grow and grow. When you
get your US you can watch.

keltyl people who have nodules with Hashi's should
be watched closely. I insisted our reg. doc do a US
on hubbie for hashis and he laughed me off. Said
people with hashis don't get nodules. I said I
wanted it anyway. And guess what he indeed have
one ominous nodule that said he needed watch. But
this was the same doc who 2 years later said I
didn't have Lyme either. Literature says that one nodule in hashis begs watching. I begged hub to go to my
endo at Nashville, and even set him up appt. with
me, he is the only one in 9 years who helped me.
Told me if I had seen him sooner I would not be
needing surgery now to breathe, 2 other endo said
they could
do nothing since my hormones were normal, and he
refused to see him. Now we don't have ins. GRRR.
