I'm wondering if someone here can help me out. I've been on 400 mg of doxycycline for a little over a year. My doctor switched me to minocycline, hoping it would penetrate my nervous system at a better rate, but my dosage is now 200 mg per day (100 mg x 2). Why the lower dose?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Will

My LLMD says mino is much easier to tolerate than Doxy. All users here report the opposite. 200 mg of Mino can be rough I hear. Don't underestimate it. [Smile] I think you're comparing an apple to an orange.

Mino is much more effective at a lower dose.

It is better able to cross the blood brain barrier.

Hi Will,

I took between 400 and 600 mg Mino for a few years and am grateful that I got the higher dose. However, Mino, even in lower doses can be very difficult to tolerate.

Depending on your body weight and reaction to Mino (usually dizziness / vertigo), you might want to ask you're doc to up the dose if you don't react adversely.

Remembering that Mino is a tetracycline derivative, watch calcium, Mg intake. Take Mino at least 2 hours before supplements, or at least 6 huors after supps. (It's a real challenge.)

Truly hope this drug helps you. It really did the trick for my neuro sx.

Keep in touch. TTYL.

I was initally on 200mg for a while and tolerated it quite well.

I noticed some stomach issues and dizziness.

I then moved up to 400mg and had to stop after a month because of the increasing side effects.

In my opinion, it is one of the best ABX out there, just REALLY hard to tolerate.......

In my opinion, Doxy was MUCH easier to tolerate than Mino....

Is stomach pain one of the side effects of mino? I'm taking it and it causes heartburn feeling and stomach pain... even on a tiny dose!! [Frown]
It does work well though...

Anyone had improvements on only 100mg of Minocycline?

My daughter can't seem to tolerate more than 100mg. She also takes Rifampin but at a higher dose.
