started last night around bed time. eyes irritated like an eye lash hair caught under the lid in both eyes. flushed with water - went to sleep but awoke with the irritation still there. Any suggestions. Started some new supplements a couple days ago (2 for adrenals and one supplement for metal detox). thoughts?

I agree about the drops. Don't get the redness kind, as they may irritate further. (and your eyes can get dependent on them, like otc nasal sprays)

It may be dry eyes. I was just dx'd with that with similar symptoms as you.

Good luck.

I have this symptom off and on, as does my daughter and it is not allergies. I put a cold cloth over my eyes and rest. That seems to be the only thing that helps.

It can be a migraine. That is how mine started. I kept having eye pain, and light sensitivity.

I never really had a bad headache, just a dull one. So I never thought migraine. My doc said some ppl don't even have head pain at all with a migraine. I think that might be called a silent migraine.

Yes, it sounds like dry eyes to me. I got that from lyme.

It went away with good lyme treatment. (Didn't go away on my 2 years of lousy lyme treatment.)

In the meantime, use eye drops for dry eye. They help for a few seconds after you use them. The eye doc confirmed that I had dry eye. It feels like sand in the eyes, always irritated. Closing them makes them feel better.

Eye doc recommended Refresh brand eye drops.

Then at night, the eye doc had me use RefreshPM which is thick like vaseline. You heat up the little tube and squeeze a drop into each eye.

You can check side effects of the new things you started taking. Do any of them cause dry eye?

Antihistamines can dry out eyes.

Dry eye is very irritating.

I think that the red eyes and eye pain is from the infections.
I get this most when i am herxing and treating in some way that hits the protozoans it seems most.

I get red blood shot eyes and they hurts and sting as well as ache and have pain behind the eye ball and in the eye ball.

I actually have tracked this and when on the meds that end up working the best I get this eye issue.

Just my own experience and ideas

I get burning eye pain off and on. Have wondered if it was residual from the Palsy, but it is AWFUL.

Same as TF for me, dry eyes. Awfully irritating symptom. Cleared up with lyme treatment.

Could be seasonal allergies. Could also be an infection. Have it checked out if it keeps up. Not everything is Lyme related so it could just be the change of seasons.

EVE PROBLEMS ...NOT ABLE TO SEE; Tincup, 7.20.09
I had inflammation and eye problems from Lyme... from which I was declared to be legally blind due to the damage caused. May I suggest?

Rather than waiting to do steroids for the inflammation from uveitis, etc... and ONLY because you can't find anyone right now...

This is what I did which worked VERY well for me... recommended by one of my docs.

Vitamin C

Wobenzyme- 3 per day

Querectin- as directed on bottle- max dose

Bromelain- as directed on bottle- max dose

Vitamin E- max dose recommended on bottle.
```````````````````````````````````````````````
I know.. that sounds too simple.. but it has wordked for me and others.
These supplements have anti-inflammatory properties and I was actually found to do better on them than the steroid drops they prescribed .. [doc thought I was doing the eye steroid drops when rechecking me several times].
My eyes cleared up faster than they would have on the steroid drops. I think I took this combo for about 6 weeks.
If I feel problems coming on... I start the protocol again.
I MUST say you need to check with a doctor before doing anything I am posting about... as I am NOT a doctor.
Hope this helps. tincup
There is also something that is called "Scheerer's phenomenon" or "blue field entoptic phenomenon".
This is basically the ability to see white blood cells traveling through in the squiggly capillaries of your retinas... especially when looking at a blue light. (like the sky)
When a leukocyte travels through.. it makes a wiggling motion. The link below is v\ery interesting and even has an impression of this phenomenon. "Scheerer's phenomenon"
Hi. Newbie here.
I'm a very sick eye doc with Lyme, bartonella, and borelliosis.
Eye pressure up to 29 may be normal. Not a very good test for glaucoma.
Better to look for dammage to optic nerve (visual nerve) with dilated exam.
When in doubt, a threshold visual field test (painless but boring) can be done to detect early glaucoma.
Other reliable tests that can help pick up glaucoma include corneal pachymetry and gonioscopy.
I agree that optic neuritis is a much greater concern with Lyme than glaucoma, but of course the possibility of glaucoma still exists in everyone.
If you're quite concerned about glaucoma, easiest way to rule it out would be the visual field route. Maybe ask a glaucoma specialist for a second opinion.
My little one complains of this....
Sometimes breaks down in tears his eyes get so painful. Definitely not due to dry eyes, as his eyes water so much during these episodes. He also has light sensitvity when his eyes are burning.
I give him motrin & put a cool cloth over his eyes. The cool cloth really seems to help....
He tested negative for co-infections, so it's just good ole' lyme causing this.
The eyes DO water when you have dry eye. It is caused by the irritation.
An eye doctor can look at your eyeball and tell you on the spot if you are suffering from dry eye. The problem is, the treatment's aren't very effective.
Eye doc wanted to plug up my tear drains to help me retain the little tears I did have. I opted to do nothing. The plugs can be temporary or permanent. First, they have you try the temporary ones. They put them in in the office in a second.
I had terrible eye troubles about 2 months ago. I notice the dry irratated eyes worse when my antiboitics get to a real high dose. So, I am not sure if it is inflammation or the inability to rid my body of the toxins.
I was actually wearing 2 pair of sunglasses and went to a Retinal Specialist out of town. Because my eyes were so dry and I was rubbing them, I actually scratched the corneas of both of my eyes. It did feel like grains of sand in my eyes.
In that case breifly you can use the allergy eye drops they will numb your eyes for a bit. But, you can not use them long term. Your eyes do become dependant on them. My doctor suggested the Refresh brand listed above and he suggested wetting tea bags, putting them in the fridge and then after they get cold put them over your eyes.
That really helped me. And, I was bad, the specialist mentioned putting me in the hospital, sewing my eyes shut and putting me on a morphine drip to leave my eyes alone that is how badly I had scratched my own eyes....it took me a month to get better.
I stopped all medications and I have just recently built back up to the doses I was on. This really sucks and I hope you get better soon.
My daughter usually gets the burning eyes. It almost feels like chemical burns. There seems to be a pattern to it, hormonal or toxin release.
