I've been treating since end of October last year and I keep gaining weight. Have had thyroid checked that's okay. When I first started treating cholesterol, sugar, and triglycerides high. May all great. now all high again. Dr. said our cortisol levels are high when we have it and while we treat it.

So the question is, other than keeping it healthy and exercising, should I even try to lose weight now or just weight until I'm off abx? I start cyst busting in a couple of days.

Thanks

A stressed liver (from lyme and from meds) will make all those tests go haywire, anyway. Lyme stresses the liver. Get good liver support. Get good adrenal support (see Singleton book below for that).

Focus on healthy habits regarding food. Do not "diet" by depriving your body but do have a good food plan - eat ENOUGH nutritious food, with smaller meals throughout the day as you body tells you.

Going gluten-free may help by decreasing inflammation (and releasing puffiness). Gluten can really mess up a lot with us right now, anyway. More about dietary guidelines for lyme patients is in Singlteton's book and in Burrascano's guidelines, linked in the exercise thread.

Sleep is very important and a regular sleep schedule helps combat weight gain. Avoid endocrine disruptors. Avoid all artificial sweeteners (but stevia, from a plant, is good in small amounts).

Be wise with choosing good non-aerobic exercise (as aerobic exercise is advised against during infection). Do not wear yourself out as that can actually create a worse situation. As the infection(s) subside, this should correct itself.

There are many threads about weight gain and lyme if you want to do a search. This book explains a lot but the reader has to then go to measures to find good adrenal support. That is in Singleton's book:
--------

This book is specific to lyme and other chronic stealth infections such as Cpn - Chlamydia Pneumonia ( see www:cpnhelp.org ).

The author discusses the endocrine connection and effects of STRESS on a person with such infections.

Endocrine matters (adrenal, HPA axis, cortisol) are discussed here:

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/86110

Topic: Hydrocortisone

--

Be sure to see today's addition to the above thread with an article about how " . . . curcumin reversed the stress-induced increase in the levels of serum corticosterone . . ." from http://tinyurl.com/y8bd9k2

======================

In this thread are Dr. Burrascano's guidelines regarding safe exercise for lyme patients, as well as other links that explain what can be behind that boomerang effect that some patients experience with exercise intolerance - and what can help (besides patience).
