I had lyme over 6 years ago but was not given my test results right away or treated properly.
This past year I began with emmense anxiety and ocd like tendancies (obsessive thoughts) along
with physical symptoms, achey joints, foggy memory. My PCP insisted it wasnt lyme and my lyme from 6 years ago was "gone".
A mental health APRN sent me for the quest lyme test and my 41 IGM band was the only one to come
back reactive. Despite the one Band she firmly believes I have lyme again and would benefit from abt treatment.
I am waiting for my IGENEX test. Question is will a Lyme Specialist or anyone at least start
me on treatment while I wait for my Igenex results. Im scared the longer I wait the worse Ill get... Posts: 29 | From CT | Registered: Sep 2009

I think a Lyme specialist may start you on antibiotics sooner.
But, if these symptoms have been around for more than a couple months, chances are getting treatment TODAY isn't going to make much of a difference in terms of overall outcome of treatment.
How long have you had the joint aches, foggyness, ocd?
My point is that if it's been, say, 6 months....3 more weeks shouldn't matter.
But yes, a LLMD may start treating you right away. It would just be a matter of how soon you can get in.
Best of luck! You are smart to not be ruling out Lyme.

I agree. You may have more than just lyme. Many
patients have co infections also. I would not
hesitate to ask your APRN for a referral for
antibiotics till you can get to a LLMD. Some are
quite behind a month or more and I would not want
to wait. If you have a herxing reaction there are
many here to help with ideas to prevent acute
illness if it occurs.

Welcome to Lymenet! I'm so glad you found us! You've come to the right place for education and support!
The following is some links that may be helpful to you:
People seeking doctors might be able to get help from their state online information and support group. Nearly 3,400 people belong to state groups. Some of the groups are small but more than 20 of them have 50 or more people and seven have over 100.
The groups are moderated and you have to apply. Most don't allow doctor names, but once on the group, you can ask for doctors in a certain area and ask people to email you privately.
This explains the medical politics around Lyme, and why you need an ILADS-educated or ILADS-member LLMD (and there are also some ILADS-member LL NDs (naturopathic doctors):
ILADS The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) provides a forum for health science professionals to share their wealth of knowledge regarding the management of Lyme and associated diseases. www.ilads.org
They will also send you a ``test kit'' with their required form, all the test vials, & box to ship it in. Be sure to download Igenex's required form. MD, DO, ND, AC, DC are all fine** must sign, date, and show diagnosis code on there why he's ordering the test.
Optional tests include: co-infection panel for your area of country and PCR whole blood
Igenex is pre-pay/out of network for most insurances. If you are on medicare, Igenex will file the paperwork & it's free to you.
Betty's suggested posting guidelines: Many of members have neuro lyme, and it is hard to read long solid block text and be able to comprehend.

Thank you for posting in a manner that makes it easier for all to read and help others.
