Very Important: Keep Hydrated and make sure you're replenishing electrolytes.
Coconut water (unsweetened, preferably) is excellent.
Gatorade. If you can't stand the gloopiness, it makes great popsicles!
I think VitaminWater has an electrolyte combo.
There are others.
I became very dehydrated from vomiting, and had a critically low level of potassium.
Vomiting = Replenishing Fluids and Electrolytes. Lots. Please. Thank u.

Flu? H1N1? Regl'r old stomach virus? Food poisoning?
Any other sx? Fever, aches?
Hmmm, I wonder if being on abx would help fight food poisoning before it got worse. I would think so.

Thx for all your replies guys. Ipkayak, no, I'm not in NH. No fever, doc says can't be H1N1, I was just at the end of a month-long mystery illness of severe shortness of breath, feverish, severe fatigue.
Now this. Geez. Can't a girl get a break?
Sigh.
Skyler, your sounds serious, what have your docs said? Canbravelyme, I'm sorry you had to go thru this too but your suggestions are great.
Seek - you know the story, you start to recover from one horendous long episode of something then wham..you're hit with something else.
JamesNYC, thanks, I'm *always* feverish with this illness and have a lot of pain so it's hard to tell. But definitely something has been "cooking" in my gut.

A lot of bad beef being recalled. May want to check out where it was going. I do believe it was all frozen.

yes-pinelady...it was on our news and i think i had a macdonalds hamb the other day while traveling...hmmm
nausea and vomiting are about 6 or 7 on the cdc list of h1n1 virus-i don't think everyone gets that part-its more resp-less gi
i had diarhean for half a day and nausea for a day but no vomiting the first week of the flu
btm, you said: No fever, doc says can't be H1N1
this ticks me off so much. even cdc says fever should not be used to determine if someone has flu. they say it is possible to have severe resp sx from h1n1 aand no fever. this has been on the news since the flu was in australia.
but all docs i know say you must have fever for it too be flu. it is so stupid. just like what cdc says about Bb and then docs interpret it wrong.
also-Bb leads to hypothyroid and that leads to low temp so even if you have a fever it might not be what a doc would call a fever
what a mess...i just saw on tv them giving little kids two shots at once-one in each arm

Yeah I agree Ipkayak - despite my telling the docs the same thing they still refused to test me.
Thankfully my vomiting subsided, maybe it was something I ate and not part of the whole flu picture. Who knows. I gave up eating beef several mths ago but appreciated the heads up Pinelady.

I have a stomach bug... or H1N1, but I've been puking all day with diarrhea. Can't keep any fluids down. I am currently eating ice chips in hopes that I can get *some* fluids in me. If this works, will freeze some gatorade. Thanks for that suggestion.

BHN: Be very careful; if you can't hold down liquids it can be a sign of extreme dehydration.
Are you urinating as usual, or do you find you're urinating less? How much less?
Urinating less (esp. significantly less - i.e. when you urinate, for example: if you normally urinate for 10 seconds, but now it's 5 seconds) is a sign of extreme dehydration, and you must go immediately to ER or wherever you can obtain IV fluids. This is the territory of critically low electrolytes.
People die from diarrhea and vomiting.
So for those of you experiencing significant vomiting, be observant and know the signs for when to seek help.

I just told DH that if the ice chips don't work I'm going to try to get IV fluids. I've had this one other time when I was pregnant, and the fluids helped stop the puking.
Thanks for the reminder though. I hate to overreact, but I also think that not holding down fluids is a big PROBLEM.

Hi BHN,
Not being able to hold down fluids is a BIG deal.
When you get dehydrated, there comes a point that the dehydration itself makes you throw up. That's what's happening when you're at the point that you can't hold anything down.
At that point is a signal to go get IV, because you will not be able to get on top of it.
Please be careful so that I can sleep tight. If you're at the ice chip stage, you're pretty close.
And if you start urinating less, go right away.

Thanks. I think part of my problem is that I was trying to eat crackers. I actually am starting to feel better with these ice chips. I'm going to start Gatorade in four hours if I don't throw up between now and then. If I can't keep ice chips down, I'll head straight to the ER.

Benadryl works well to stop vomiting and nausea, though it has the side effect often of fatigue. Feel better soon!

Zofran also stops vomiting. Rx from doc.
Blocks serotonin release.
Serotonin leaves the appendix (really!)and goes into the blood stream.

NOt able to read what others posted. But, I have gone though times of tossing my cookies several times since coming down with sick in 2001.
It gets less as times goes by and I knock on wood each time I don't go through it again.
Don't have any answers as to what causes it.
I do know it seems to be less if I don't over task my body and brain, and stay on the "if it is white it ain't right food intake,
We are all different...yours could be something completely different than mine.

thanks pl. i paid more attention to what brands and all. one thing that bugged me was wild harvest was included with a whole bunch of other brands. i thought wild harvest was organic but the other brands aren't. are they saying it is organix when it isn't??? no big surprise really. i don't believe anyone anymore.
