Well, I knew we couldn't avoid these plagues forever, but it seems like my family has been hit with whatever is going around.
My older son has been complaining intermittently of his stomach hurting for the past few days, and now he has a cough, stuffy nose and fever, although he is eating okay and has periods of activeness.
My younger son also has a stuffy nose and cough, haven't checked for fever yet, but he's acting like his batteries are dying, lol.
I was up half the night with a sore throat, and now I'm stuffy and having more trouble breathing than usual.
I also have a pain--feels like a muscle?-- in the middle of my chest, above the breastbone. It really hurts when I take a deep breath.
I really don't want to call the doctor because they don't want to see people right now unless it's absolutely necessary, but I just worry because of my son's asthma and my Lyme.
*Sigh* at least we're getting sick this week, so hopefully we'll be okay for Thanksgiving.

My neighbor's 42 year old brother was putting off, for a week, going to the doctor for flu like symptoms.
Finally they had to take him to the hospital by ambulance.
Sadly he died. He had H1N1.
He left a wife and a 8 year old son.
I'm not trying to scare you but to be safe see a doctor.

I have had that concern as well, but I asked at the LLMD's office about H1N1, and they said that with H1N1, you kiterally feel like you've been run over by a truck.
What their office has been tellling patients is that if you can get out of bed, you don't have H1N1.
They also said that H1N1 fevers spike quite high. I have no fever, and Wesley's wasn't even up to 101.
And he was up playing this afternoon despite the fever and cough.
I just don't know what to do. These docs around here don't even want to see you if you have flu sx unless you're having obvious signs of distress, plus they don't want to expose others to what you've got or expose you to other illnesses.
I'll definitely see how things are progressing till tomorrow morning. If no better, we'll call the doctor.

My daughter and her entire family had H1N1 flu.
They were sooooo sick. Kid's fever were around 104, adults around 102.
My youngest grandson, age 3, fared the best because he took Sambuguard for Kids which contains elderberry extract, echinachea and vit C.
Sambucol liquid is a brand of elderberry extract for adults.
Elderberry extract was shown in studies to have antiviral properties equal to Tamiflu.
It can be found at CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.
If your son who has asthma has flu symptoms....fever, cough, stuffy/runny nose, body aches, etc....call his Dr and ask for him to call in some Tamiflu to your pharmacy.
Anyone who has chronic medical conditions such as respiratory diseases, diabetes, etc should be able to get it.
It is important to try to start the medication within 48 hrs of when symptoms started.
H1N1 really wipes you out. My daughter, son-in-law and 6 yr old grandson were each sick for at least 6 days.
My 3 yr old grandson who took the Sambuguard was sick for 3 days.
My Son-in-law developed bronchitis on top of the flu.
Be careful and drink lots of fluids.
Watch for worsening symptoms and call the Dr if any doubt.
It's nothing to fool with.

Starfall, not everyone who gets H1N1 has a high fever. My temp only rose 3 degrees above normal, and since normal for me is below 98.6, it was never a high fever. In fact, if you get a high fever AFTER you've contracted the flu, you should get to a hospital right away, because there may be a secondary infection, such as pneumonia, which has happened a lot with H1N1.
With your pain in the chest, and your son's asthma, please be very careful.
You may have the flu if you have some or all of these symptoms:
*fever * *cough *sore throat *runny or stuffy nose *body aches *headache *chills *fatigue *sometimes diarrhea and vomiting *It's important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
People at high risk include people with asthma, and people with neurological conditions, including peripheral nerve disorders (that would be many Lyme patients).
Please take it seriously.

What are the emergency warning signs?
In children:
*Fast breathing or trouble breathing *Bluish skin color *Not drinking enough fluids *Not waking up or not interacting *Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held *Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough *Fever with a rash
In adults:
*Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath *Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen *Sudden dizziness *Confusion *Severe or persistent vomiting
Stay home if you are mildly ill. Go to the hospital if you have any of the warning signs above. Stay home 24 hours AFTER your fever has gone.

Thanks everyone.
We did the nebulizer a couple hours ago, and he perked up--in fact half an hour afterwards he was running (yes, RUNNING) around the house; we had to yell at him to sit down and take it easy.
Of course now he's all coughing again.
I'm kind of leaning towards that he has the typical asthmatic bronchitis yet again, but we'll definitely be calling the doc in the AM.
