I think my LLMD is the same as yours. He has me on Flagyl 250 mg twice daily for 2 weeks on then 2 weeks off.

What's with the low dose?

I was on 1000mg/day and went to a new LLMD...he shook his head and said "That is not enough...you need to up that to 500mg three times a day if you want to kill the cysts."

I'm not saying who is right but only 500mg a day is low by most standards I have read.

My LLMd just rx'd Flagyl 1000mg per day for the next 3 months. (He is well known ILADS LLMd).

I need to go on it because of H.pylori. But am really afraid of he LD cyst busting effects. How have you done?

My now famous lyme doc had me on it daily (3 times per day, if I remember correctly) for 2 months.

I had lots of improvement with only 250 mg a day and a lot more side effects if I went higher. I know that it's usually prescribed higher. My LLMD was OK with me exploring the lower dose, since it was part of combination therapy with other antibiotics.

A high percentage of people get permanent neuropathy if they stay on Flagyl for an extended period of time. I have never had neuropathy (sp), I experienced it after being on that drug for 2 weeks. Everyone is different. I will probably still take it off and on but it had a strong affect on my nerve endings. I took 1000 mg a day for 2 weeks. I'm trying it again and it is doing the same thing.

I was on flagyl til last week at 500 3xday. Had

to go off due to extreme reaction. My LD said

that the higher dose was for killing the ctstic

form of lyme. Hang in there if you can. I wish

I couyld have. however I did experience extreme

neuropathy with it.

I took flagyl for 5 days, 500mg 3x per day for a total of 1500mg per day. The prescription was for 10 days, but after 5 days, I had terrible reaction to it, including numb fingers, toes and feet. It totally freaked me out, because you can get permanent peripheral neuropathy from flagyl. I decided to stop taking it. I might consider pulsing it in lower doasages in the future. But never again will I take that high a daily dose. I just couldn't handle it.

I got a super-duper and debilitating headache (neuropathy-induced I believe) when taking tinnidazole (same class and action as flagyl) after a couple of months on it and had to stop.

However, after taking about a month's holiday from it, I was (and am) able to be on it with no problem. Maybe you just need a break?
