I just looked through a search and found lots of posts talking about Vit as a steroid.
Im not sure, but I seem to think I am worse a day after I take my weekly 50,000 IU pill.
But maybe its not and I think this because of what I recently read.
What do you think? I am deficient- a 4 to be exact.
Do you think Vit D is bad for you?

Many have a healing crisis(herx type) after their Vit D injections. That dose can effect you. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing.
There is a camp of people that follow a certain doctor's protocol that say no Vit D and no sun what so ever. I personally would die without the sun.
The other camp of people know that Vit D makes them feel better. Many that are tested deficient and even those that don't test deficient can feel improvement with Vit D.
During the warmer months I try to get 15 minutes of sun a day. During the winter I take Vit D to keep my head above water.

One way to find out would be to get your vita d 1.25 test done by quest or any lab that will freeze the sample. Lab Corp does not do this. If your 1.25 is elevated you shouldn't need to supplement with D.

4 is very low. Is that a total or other? If it
bombs you out I would try reduceing it by half and
see if you tolerate it better. That dosage sent me
severe neuro.

I take 50,000 IUs 2x per week. Yes it can initially make you feel worse taking that large amount; but eventually when you get you D up and keep it up, you will feel better.
It is not that kind of steroid! It is an immune modulator. I think it is very important to get your D levels up.

It could be because I had not started treatment of
any sort yet. It would be interesting to see lab
studies done of the before and after!

Yes, Vit. D can be bad.
It turned on tinnitus for me 6 years ago, which has never gone away.
I also had very elevated 1,25 D, the active metabolite, although my "Vit D" level was low. As a matter of fact, it was in the toxic range.
Vit D "deficiency" is a RESULT, not a CAUSE.
Best,

I think if we could ask most Md's they'd say vitamin D is an absolute necessity for good health.
