Been treating since Sept 09 with some stops and starts due to drug issues. Been non-stop since Dec.

Currently on Rifampin for Bart, Mepron/Zith for Babesia and added in Plaquenil to begin adressing Lyme again. Added the Paquenil back in the beginning of Feb.

Since then I have had a huge increase in neuro symtpoms. Tingling, headaches, blurry vision, lump in throat feeling, kind of off balance/woozy every once in a while, a few days with pretty bad joint pain.

Wondering if it is the Plaquenil actually doing something or if it's doing nothing at all and Lyme is running rampant again.

Looking for your experiences with this. Thanks.

Plaquenil doesnt really treat Lyme so to speak. It mostly just makes the other abx work better. Sounds like you are getting better penetration of the Zith and Rifampin.

It depends who's research you trust more...Brorson and Brorson or Eva Sapi. The Brorsons published studies of Plaquenil killing cysts and Eva Sapi recently said that her studies showed Plaquenil caused cyst formation.

Personally, for the past 20 months, I have always been mentally slow and gotten a heavy haze when not on either Flagyl, Tinidazole, or Plaquenil. I would guess it is a cyst buster, judging that it makes me feel exactly as clear headed as those two meds.

I would still be on Plaquenil if not for my achilles tendon problems.

Hi Aimee,

I don't know if the Plaq is causing your re-occurance of symptoms or not, but I wanted to mention that I was on Plaq for about four months and recently stopped.

I also took Rifampin, but didn't notice any results good or bad. I take Zith and mino and Omnicef now and will start Mepron soon. (I got the RX filled, but haven't had the courage to start yet).

Anyway, I have all the same symptoms you have and sometimes they are worse than others, but never really go away.

Your post was especially interesting to me b/c you mentioned the lump in your throat. I can't imagine what is causing it (Lyme, Bart, Babs?), but it really bothers me and has has for years. Sometimes it feels like there is a spoonful of peanut butter stuck in my esophagus.

I am interested in hearing what others have to say about your question. I hope you find some relief and answers.

I started Mino and Azithromycin then 8 or 9 weeks later my LLMD gave me Plaquenil as I had severe pain the shoulder blades and in between the shoulder blades.

The pain got improved with 3 or 4 Plaquenils. My LLMD said it is antimalarial and some say it did not kill any bacteria it is just an anti inflamatory drug.

I have also asked my LLMD if Plaquenil causes to turn the Lyme into Cyst form, he says that every disease will convert to cyst form if you try to kill it.

I had my eyes got checked before starting Plaquenil with a neuro-opthomologist and will continue checking my eyes.

I have had improvement since being back on Doxy and Plaquenil since October.
