There are (3) infectious disease doctors who are members of ILADS: Dr.J of Washington D.C., Dr.D of Boston, and Dr.C of Florida.
these doctors are also members of IDSA.
I happen to see one of these doctors and yesterday we spoke of the new guidelines that are to be released at the end of the month.
My doctor had applied to sit on the committee to re-write the guidelines and was turned down because his income from Lyme patients exceeded 15,000 per year...
Totally ridiculous! This means that anyone who treats Lyme in the proper fashion was exempt...the men and women who are in the trenches day to day fighting for our health....who better to write treatment guidelines but them, who *see* the devestation of this illness first hand?
My doctor went on to say that IDSA has 4-5 talking heads that are so powerful, everyone else throws up their hands. He also said that the only changes in guidelines are cosmetic, some brief re-wording.
What respect I have for my doctor and others like him who buck the system and treat patients because of the suffering that they see walking in and out of their offices daily...
It really dawned on me, like a bonk over the head, how brave and committed our doctors are.

Well hopefully there's a special place for those 4 or 5 'power people' at the IDSA that play with our lives like a monopoly game.
