My doc has me taking large amounts, next week I take 16 pills of it a day. this week is 8 a day. the third week on is 4 pills a day. I guess as a preventative. My question is do you other guys do this, or is this something unique to my doc. Would 400mg of doxy a day be likely to cause yeast issues? i am starting off with 200 the first week of treatment then jumping to 400mg. (of doxy)

I took it years ago. I started very very slowly and I still got deathly ill and had to stop it.
In Mexico I had IV's of doxycycline and VitC that helped a lot. I also changed my diet and became more aware of yeast problems.
I now take two or three different probiotics and that seems to do the trick.

- Q: " . . . Would 400mg of doxy a day be likely to cause yeast issues?" --
Just LOOKING at a bottle of any antibiotic can be the start of a long battle with yeast for me. Yes, protection from several angles is required and best if started before starting abx.
I have always found both probiotics and Olive Leaf Extract to be necessary for me. OLE is pretty amazing.
Nystatin and Probiotics (taken at different times) may be enough for you. Still, you may want to do a good search on Olive Leaf Extract regarding it guarding against Candida.
Nystatin never did much for me, though, as candida had gotten a years-long foothold before I even knew about candida. Then, I needed Diflucan. Years later, thinking ahead when starting on doxy again, it was the OLE that was spectacular in prevention.
I would never be without OLE anytime I'm even anywhere near an antibiotic. It's that good for me. Before I even knew I had lyme, I had been on and off of abx for all sorts of lung, ear or throat infections. No doctor ever told me about candida.
You are very lucky to know now, at the beginning. Prevention is key. It's much harder to treat if it gets established. And, for prevention or early stages, nystatin may be enough for you - along with Probiotics at opposite times of the day.
You probably already know this but, just to be sure, simple carbohydrates (sugars, processed foods) are to be avoided in order to prevent candida. Complex, whole-foods are best. -

16 pills is an unusual dose of Nystatin. Usually it is prescribed 2 tablets twice or three times daily. Your doc must have a reason for prescribing it that way.
I do also take Nystatin, 2 tablets three times daily for yeast prevention. Nystatin is nice because it doesn't interact with most meds and it is easy on the liver.

Omgoodness! I just went to see what mg I take (500,000 units) and saw that I am supposed to take 2 three times a day. I have been taking 1 each time. I don't know if I ever would have caught that w/o seeing this thread.

I use the compounded powder and use as needed, but I had to ramp up slowly because I was getting yeast die-off.

That's what it was for me: yeast die off. And that can make you very miserable!

16 pills for one week SHOULDN'T BE "unusual." He is making sure you kill out any yeast you may already have. Lyme suppresses the immune system and that in itself can bring on yeast.
YES 400mg ( or ANY amount ) of doxy can give you yeast.

Thats a quite normal dose. Remember, Nystatin is not absorbed into the blood. Its easier to just get the powder and take the little spoonfuls.

2 tablets 3 times a day is what I am on.
I'm kinda mad that the last doc didn't put me on nystatin with the doxy. I guess I got lucky because using I'm really sensitive to abx when it comes to yeast issues.

my doctor gave me the exact same dosage instructions as yours gave you, so i don't think it's unusual either..
