Zithromax is still kiiling me after 3 weeks. I don't think I am going to be able to continue with it. I am only taking 500mg once a day and still can't tolerate it. I am experiencing intense stomach burning that is constant.

LLMD mentioned Doxy on my visit, but chose Zith because it is summer. So, I really need to ask for something to pair with Rifampin besides these two abx. I am also taking plaquenil and will continue with that.

Antibiotics with very high bioavailability are easier on the gut because they are absorbed completely and less travels through the intestines, killing all your flora.

Doxcycline and minocycline are both easier than typical antibiotics on the bowel for this reason. You might consider minocycline as it has less sun sensitivity issues than doxcycyline.

Amoxicillin is also very well absorbed, although it hits only the spirochete form of lyme and no co-infections, but it might be suitable depending on your situation.

edit: this advice was based on an assumption that what you meant by "killing your gut" was diarrhea. If its a burning pain in your actual stomach, I'm not sure what would be less likely to cause this than azithromycin.

Sorry you are having such a time with Zith! I thought doxy was tough on the gut. It made me so nauseated, but this did taper down after a few weeks.

I was recently rxed Rifampin and Biaxin together. I have taken Biaxin in the past and it has never given me tummy trouble, and I am prone to it. God bless you.

The stomach problem is extreme burning. I was diagnosed with gastritis in December. I think the Zith has caused it to flare.
