I have become very interested in the many different suppressed benefits of saturated fats. This morning I found an interesting statement and posted it on my blog , along with the whole article. Here is the statement

"The membranes round the cells in our body are mostly fat. Saturated fats are C shaped and interlock to produce a strong membrane. Unsaturated oils are straight so don't lock together, so weaker membranes are produced, more open to infection." The rest of the article is very informative...and a bit humorous and can be found at this link

I think we need to begin looking at the basic reasons why our immune systems perhaps let spirochetes into the brain and into the cells...etc. What is deficient? The animals in the wild...compared to those kept as pets...do not get degenerative disease.

Hello,

With all that I've read through the years, I do think it's important to have enough healthy fats and essential fatty acids in our diet so our cells are given what they need so they can form a nice healthy shield around themselves. I don't think saturated fats are the answer. Most of them come from an animal source (meat, dairy, etc.) If I may suggest a very eye-opening book about the impact of consuming animal products, it's called "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell, PhD. It's the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted. [If you do decide to read it, make sure you don't skip over the Acknowledgements, Preface, Foreword and Introduction in the beginning; this will give you a really good idea of where this information is coming from, and how relevant this author is in providing this info.]

I totally agree that we need to look into what is affecting our immune systems. We live in a world of so many chemicals... in our food and in our homes. So much to consider, research, change and modify (but worth it!).

Well, BigPharma and the junk food industry seem to have totally convinced the public of the total evils of saturated fats.

Pretty sad.
