I did not have a typical palatal expander .... my braces had two arches, one across the top of my mouth and one under my tongue near my front teeth. I also had another removable appliance that widened it for use when I slept.
This was done slowly over time. The removable appliance was worn all day when I first got it and it helped retrain the muscles. I also wore a split prior to this work to move my jaw and retrain the muscles.
You might read the info on KPU. 80% of Lyme patients have it according to Dr. Klinghardt and one of the signs is a narrow jaw.
