A fellow Lymie needs our help. She contacted me after she saw one of my Lyme posts on a health board.

Her name is Lori and she has been to doctors ALL over the country. She is for the most part bedridden and very ill. She's staying in a motel in Red Bank, NJ, because she had to go on the run from her family. They threatened to put her in a mental institution because they do not believe she is ill. I firmly believe that she has Lyme and at the very least Babesia.

She has an appt with Dr. E on Thursday. Hopefully, Dr. E will be able to make a diagnosis.

Lori wants someone desperately to go with or take her to this appt. Also, some moral support as she has no family support. Any and all offers will be accepted! We've all been there, haven't we?

If you can offer some assistance, please contact me and I'll get you her location and phone number.

Thanks a million,
Carol [email protected]

I don't know that I'd be in a position to do this, but some questions do come to mind that others might want to know before thinking about this.

This "fellow Lymie" contacted you via an internet post...
Have you personally met him/her?
Are you able to verify the story you've been given?

A motel in RedBank...
Can you guarantee that this person is not a 6'5" 280lb sexual predator/serial killer as "bedridden & very ill" would likely mean needing to knock on the motel room door?

Dr.E...
Jackson or Flemingtion?

Appt on Thursday...
At what time?
Can it be confirmed with the Dr's office?

I may be either watching too much CSI, Law & Order SVU or TV news. I may also be Lyme-paranoid.

I do think however that, when dealing with people met on the internet, one needs to exercise great caution. Especially if the person who would be meeting them is known to be ill and less likely to be able to defend themself.

I do hope that if "Lori" IS legitimate, we'll be able to get her some help. [group hug]

#1 Your family can't decide because they don't believe you they are going to put you away in a mental institution. That is just not how that works.

#2 Everything AliG said.

I hate to get down on this too BUT...

Hey, AliG...being a NJ girl...if you were on the run and needed to stay inexpensively at a motel...would you stay in RED BANK? Would you REALLY pay Red Bank prices? I ask YOU only because I know you are a Jerseyite...and its a valid thought. And I see you being as skeptical as I am about this...

Because if I was near Red Bank, I could stay much cheaper if I went over to Eatontown to the red roof or something. Or the Motor inn accross from Kohls in Hazlet on 35. Or the welfare motel on 35 in Keyport...

Heck, I grew up in Sayreville, then Middletown. We used to go shopping in Red Bank all the time. I even walked that train tressle next to the Red Bank Bridge from Middletown to Red Bank...I don't know what I was thinking...I could have been killed...another of my friends tried to bungee jump off it with rope but rope stretches, you don't bounce back up. Ah, good times...and we learned about physics...

While Red Bank is not cheap. AT ALL. They do have a great little Itailian food place, though.

BUT, I digress...I would have to talk to this person myself.

I also see weirdo predator in my mind when I hear something like this. I hate that because I would like to help if I could...but I am in PA and won't be in NJ till november anyway. Sounds fishy.

For the person who posted this, there is a doctor only MINUTES away from Red Bank in Middletown. He is an osteopath, and while he is NOT an ILADS doc, rather he is an ACAM doc...he would be willing to test w/ IGENEX and start treatment, even though I can understand wanting to go to an LLMD. I know they advertise they treat it...and I have been there before myself, though way before I knew I had Lyme. And guess what? They actually take insurance!

If this person Lori wants that information, have them PM me and I will be glad to provide it.

Not sure. I don't know about Red Bank, but aren't the shore rates usually cheaper off-season? I have no idea what I'd do, I don't think I would have had the sense to run away. [dizzy] [Frown]

I was going to say we don't know Lori's financial picture, but if she/he were financially secure I would think a ride wouldn't be a problem.
