Is it common for a claimant to send a letter appealing an insurer's denial along with physician's supporting evidence?
I have 25 days to send in an appropriate response. This is an ERISA plan. It's insured by UNUM.
I have a lousy one page letter from my PCP stating 7 illnesses and one line saying these disable me from working. Unfortunately, soem are depression and somatoform disorder. Others are CFS and Fibro.
My LTD insurer wrote me an 8 page denial letter back in late Feb-09. One page sure isn't a good response.
While I'm finally starting to feel a bit better than I used to, I feel I am being robbed ignoring my illness from March 09 to current. I was covered by a group LTD plan. It's so unfair to ignore the illness, which I am sure is Lyme.
Am I screwed with 25 days only now?

Well people think they are covered as I did because I have no family. But in really these plans are a great taxwrite off for the company and give employees nothing. That's what I'm thinking

In this thread, Bugg says to be careful in how you reply as you could waive rights without even knowing it. Bugg knows good ERISA lawyers. I suggest you pm Bugg who is still active on this board.
