Today I was tired of water and tea, tea and water. taste buds needed something I'm not supposed to have.
So...Guess what? I had an Orange Crush...My favorite POP. Yea I'm still a kid at heart Sometimes it's the little things that make me smile and forget about Lyme.
Do you have something little that makes you forget...even for a moment?
Maybe smelling a rose and the pedal gets stuck to your nostril when you inhale?

I say tom-a-to, you say to-mah-to *grin*. I lived in michigan in the mid to late 70's. I went to what they called a party store (conviencience store) and asked for soda water. She kept pointing me to the aisle with baking soda. Finally i asked her "you dont have coke, 7-up etc.?" and she said "oh you mean pop! You shoulda said so"! It doesn't exactly make me forget about lyme, but if I am able..I try to have a cup of detox tea and GF pecan cookies.
Getting up to have some now ...I hope.

Yep, all soda is "coke" in Texas... but back in the old days we called it "soda water."
My dad (who, if living would be 96 now) used to tease our friends' kids in Minn. when they would ask for POP. He would say, "He's right there!"

It's all "coke" here in Tennessee too. I didn't know that was the case in Texas, but I expected it in Georgia.
When people around here say soda or pop I just start laughing. I can't help it. It really makes more sense than what we say though.
Here's a typical conversation here: "Hey do you want a coke?" other person "yeap what kind do you have?"

got another one for you. When I find a chin hair, it takes all my concentration to pluck that "little" sucker. I can feel it but can't find and it will bug me till I get it No lyme thought then.

Im not the only one with chin hair? I could have a full blown beard. I panic if i cant find my tweezers. I live in tennessee for a coupla years. Town called tullahoma. LOVED it! I loved everything about that state. And it didnt matter if you were uncle bobbys 4th cousin 5 times removed...you were family. I cant say one bad word about that state or the people. Id move there in a heartbeat if i could. Now that ive hijacked this thread....

I enjoy the "little" books I read to my grandchildren before they go to sleep, even tho they are getting bigger.
I enjoy listening to the "little" sounds in the night...like crickets when I can't sleep.
I enjoy looking in the big sky and seeing all the "little" stars God put there.

Finding the chin hair strangely funny.
I think I need to find a different cookie to go with my tea or get my teeth fixed as eating right now is a problem due to something going on with a tooth.
thanks for reminding me about the shower. Hoping to get up and take one this am. That does feel a bit like normal at times since having the sit down shower chair in the shower and the regular shower head instead of the hand held one..actually this shower head can be either.
I will be looking for other things that take my mind off of lyme.
Taking pics and posting them on FB has been fun and reminds me I am able to get out and about at times.

I usually get myself in trouble when I try to forget about Lyme by doing things I used to do.
For instance, I'll go and overdo it trying to go to a mall and then eat a bunch of carbs for dinner and then watch a movie and eat candy. And then throw up from doxy, have a candida attack, get depressed because the movie was sad, and wake up with Lyme pain and fatigue the next day. Thus forcefully bringing my mind right back to Lyme, ugh.
I have too much of a tick phobia to try hiking or camping.
If you miss soda, I have figured out that you can make some decent substitutes.
Lemon soda: sparkling water, juice of a lemon, and stevia. This tastes really good with the juice of a lime.
Cream soda: sparkling water, stevia, and a drop of organic vanilla extract.
I haven't tried it with the juice of an orange, and that might be too much sugar, but then maybe you wouldn't need the stevia? I'm sure you could try it.
And the sparkling water, although bland, gives me at least the sensation of drinking something cool and fizzy out of a can. (It comes in cans at Kroger.)
I went to a happy movie the other day, after eating a healthy dinner and taking it easy all day, and ate sugar free chocolate in the movie. The movie made me smile, I didn't overdo it, and I didn't get sick afterwards.
I am all for finding acceptable and appealing substitutes for old comforts, such as making pizza crust, chocolate cake and cocoa with almond flour and stevia (where needed).
I haven't yet managed low carb macaroni and cheese, though.
As to distracting myself, I chat with friends online, I read really good books (grateful I can still read), listen to audiobooks while crocheting, watch DVDs as long as it's something upbeat and happy (Mamma Mia always puts me in a good mood), and I have taken up studying psychology when I feel up to it, just on my own.
I still have a lot of time where I am too sick to do much, and find myself struggling in conversations to come up with non-Lyme related topics.
You could work on a scrapbook of happy memories from the past that make you smile to think about, or a collage of dreams for the future, for when you get well. Or any sort of art or creativity that you're able to do, to make something beautiful. Or make something angry, and get that Lyme rage out, haha.
If I start thinking about all the things I had to give up that I used to do, it just makes me depressed. Better to find some new thing I'm capable of doing now, and find comfort in it.
Excellent idea to make cooking a hobby, since it's so hard to eat healthy if you don't cook it yourself. I'm just not up to cooking most of the time. Or washing dishes.
The really good energetic weekend I had a couple of weeks ago, I reorganized half my kitchen. That was fun. I even got normal-tired. I felt so proud of my large accomplishment. And my kitchen is useable again, on those rare days I feel like cooking.
A really great thing to get totally absorbed in is making music with other people. Sing or play instruments together. Sing in a choir, play chamber music, play Bluegrass, go Christmas caroling (okay, those might be too ambitious for a lot of people, due to either lack of energy or musical experience). Get your spouse, kid or best friend, light a candle on the coffee table and sing silly campfire songs. If you're embarrassed or not musical at all, find some little kids and sing little kid songs with them. If you still can't stop thinking about Lyme, make up goofy songs about it.

I noticed you say SODA. Smile. Cleaning your kitchen; you should be proud of your accomplishment.
Now on a lighter note... Bet you don't think about lyme when you go to a public bathroom and walk out with toilet paper stuck to your shoe.

I say "soda", too. I've made the same sodas you have, Light. Except I just omit the sweetener. (I know, a little weird) Orange is good with a little (maybe a tiny bit of)vanilla extract.
As for the toilet paper on the shoe, MDW - I never leave without checking for that!
I never, ever think of lyme when I'm in a public restroom. My mind is too busy on other things.
I used a port-a-john recently and all I could concentrate on was trying to figure out how to breathe in oxygen without inhaling the air around me, all while keeping my balance and not touching a thing.
Maybe TMI, but you brought up the public restroom
It was an absolute NECESSITY, that's the only reson I found myself using a port-a-john.

Soda vs. pop, lol.
I had a college friend from NY, and another friend and I were arguing over whether it was soda or pop, so we asked him what he called it.
Smart@$$ that he was, he chuckled and said, "I call it soda pop."
Chin hairs. Yeah, I get those too. If I can't find the sucker to pluck it, I get a freakin' razor and just mow the bugger down. Yeah, I know, really ladylike.
The Alamo: I was born on Remember the Alamo Day. Ironic thing is, I don't.
What makes me forget? Hmmm, watching Ghost Hunters so I can stare at Grant Wilson. Ain't too much that hottie can't make me forget.

I stepped out on my deck a short while ago.
A spider came dangling down and decided to "pop" a seat on my arm.....I screamed and jumped around crazily!! No lyme thought there!
I do now....stressed out the nerves in this lyme body.

For some of us, I know you will understand this;
You know that loose muscle that hangs down on the arm? well, when asked, "how did you get that "little" bruise?"
I had to chase that darn muscle flapping around in order to see the "little" bruise. Most likely caused from the "POP" bottle top.
No lyme thought then.

This discussion reminds me of when I was in England in a hostel for the night, with eight of us in the room, all English speakers. However...each from a different English-speaking country -
We were from the US, Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, I think.
And we couldn't stop laughing all night, listening to all the terms used for flashlight (somewhere it's a torch - and I thought they meant flames),
and beach thongs - they have all kinds of names, including flipflops, etc. And gas is petrol. And a truck is a lorrie. And a car's hood is a bonnet. And in Scotland you go OOOT and aBOOOT. (that's out and about, I found OOOt.)

I used to work at a hotel front desk and had a British guest ask me for a "bumbershoot". Took us a while to figure it out, but it turns out he was asking for an umbrella.
I'm originally from upstate NY and we called it "pop" too.

A "cart" at Walmart is called a "buggy" in the south so says my MIL.

Well, that did it - I had to go look up bumbershoot!
bumbershoot: combo of umb from umbrella and altered chute from parachute. Umbrella - from umbra, shaded.
And, there is a Bumbershoot Festival, in Seattle, for Labor Day. Now you know under what kind of weather those folks have festivals!
By the way, there's quite a history on umbrellas, parasols; rather interesting, and picturesque.
