It sounds to me as if the blade (first shoots of a plant) and the ear (where the corn cob grows) and the full grain in the ear (full cob of corn) is talking about a plant.

Although I don't know if corn was grown in that area then. Maybe a stalk of grain (wheat?) is more likely.

I believe a mustard seed is the smallest seed, as seeds go.

Matthew 17:20
He replied, ``Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.''

Many days I feel like all I can muster (no pun intended) is mustard seed faith. But God says, that's all it takes. That's very comforting to me right now.

Hey Hens,

The mustard seed...Mark 4:30-32
"With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in the shade."

Could you explain this a little bit for me?

Sure, let me get my Bible...I'll look at the explanatory notes on the bottom of the page.

OK, for Mark 4:30-32, it says,

"Jesus used this parable to explain that although Christianity had very small beginnings, it would grow into a worldwide community of believers.

When you feel alone in your stand for Christ, realize that God is building a worldwide kingdom.

He has faithful followers in every part of the world, and your faith, no matter how small, can join with that of others to accomplish great things."

For much of the time, Jesus spoke in parables which I find very hard to understand. Just give it to me straight!

I was so glad when I read that before he descended into heaven, he told his disciples that the Holy Spirit would be with them and would no longer speak to them in parables but speak clearly instead.

Hurray! My simple brain is happy!!

Oh thank you,I can understand your words.
Does your bible then explain what Mark 4:26-29 means? The parable of the seed growing?
What kind of bible do you have with foot notes?
If I find a bible like yours, will I still have guestions?

I have a Life Application Bible, New International Version.

We love it! I bet it's almost 30 years old with pages falling out all over the place, but we've never replaced it - priceless! [Smile]

OK, the explanatory notes for Mark 4: 26-29 say,

"This parable about the kingdom of God, recorded only by Mark, reveals that spiritual growth is a continual, gradual process that is finally consummated in a harvest of spiritual maturity.

We can understand the process of spiritual growth by comparing it to the slow but certain growth of a plant."

Get the Bible, don't stop the questions!

Hens, that is so awesome. I need to get one of these bibles for me and my Stefanie. I could actually get through the bible in a year and possibly understand it. Wow. We shall see, because I really enjoy making my brain have to work and keep the cob webs wiped off the brain cells.
Thank you friend 17HensLessTwo.

I just thought of something 17, when you read your bible with the foot notes...umm..if you read the same verse in say a month from now, would it have a different meaning to you? Understand what I am attempting to say? Does it read like a story...your book?

Dear friends,

2 Corinthians 13:14 (NIV)

"May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all"

Today, may you be filled with the love of God!!

We know daisy and gwb are filled with the love of God and rejoicing over their new granddaughter, Estella!

Awww, there is nothing like cuddling with a newborn baby.

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

MDW, the explanatory notes are on the bottom 1/4 or 1/5 of each page, so I can easily read the words of the Bible, from verse to verse, without ever looking at the notes. They don't break anything up and are there for me only if I want them to be. Kinda like bifocals [Smile]

MDW,

I can picture the beautiful rose!

The frozen bud on the rose "twig" (lol) turning into the most beautiful peach colored rose with the powerful scent could be a metaphor for many things in our lives.

I think it wasn't an accident that it bloomed for you.

We are having nice weather here also for November...60 degrees for a few days.

Good morning friends!

Today is Veteran's Day.

It is a day to honor, pray for, and say thank you to all those who are serving or who have served Our Country.

We especially remember and pray for all those brave men and women, and their families, who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Because of our military members, past and present, we enjoy many freedoms.

John 15:13 (NIV)
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.

My son, Andrew, is especially on my mind and in my heart today, as he serves in Iraq with the US Army Reserve.

He said he knew on 9/11/01, when he was only 16 years old, that he wanted to join.

Have a blessed day everyone!

Good Morning on this Veterans Day,

I am overwhelmed with thanksgiving to our Veterans, to all who serve and have served for our great nation. God bless each one and God bless the USA.

So...I come to God Thought...I was surprised to see 66 posts!!! It is good to be back friends, and I was so blessed reading all of the new comments since I was here last.

I have tears in my eyes just sensing the love! Each comment, each song...WOW!!! You all minister to me.

Dekrator, Thank you for sharing with us about Andrew so that we have the privilege of praying for him. That was very touching reading that he was only 16 when 9/11 happened and that he knew what he wanted to do. God bless and protect Andrew and bring him home safely to his family and friends.

Hens, I am blessed with your explanations. Great Bible...Great Bible Study!

MDW, When I read about the rose I thought, "That is like you." Read what you wrote again...keepin you in mind, "Anyway here it is Nov. and I had a frozen bud for days now...guess what..yeah that bud turned into the most beautiful rose I ever saw, pretty peach in color and the smell.. oh my gosh powerful scent. 75 degrees here today."

MDW, warmer days are coming...you beautiful peach colored, fragrant rose.

As I've read your posts this is the verse that comes to my mind, "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).

No matter what is happening around us, in us, to us...we can just be still and realize/know without a doubt that our God is God indeed! He will always get the last word. BTW, He got the first Word too! [Big Grin] [bow]

GWB and me are so blessed by the newest little member of our family. Estella is doing great. She changes day by day. What a precious sweetheart.

Again, thank you for your prayers. Baby and mommy are doing more than fine. They are doing awesome!

Dekrator, (one more thing) about you having to cut your daughter's bangs at six weeks of age, I would never have thought that possible...but it is! Estella has beautiful, thick hair. More hair than my boys at one year (or maybe two years!) old. [Big Grin]
