I was diagnosed with two large kidney stones. One is 9m and one is 1cm. This was done by renal ultra sound and KUB.
.
The doc got excited and said these are way too big to pass. Plus, my kidney and liver function were high along with pth, calcium, etc

. They did see me in their office and had me do a plain xray. TWO times the nurse said the doc would call and talk to
me.

Guess what, no calls! I waited two afternoons by the phone and nothing. Last night I had a kidney stone attack.

I used a combo of mylanta and xylcaine the ER sent home with me last week from that visit. I am so frustrated!

I think I am going tobe half dead and go into another attach before I can go back into ER with xrays that show the stones before I get any help.

It should not be that way. I know my urologist lives is a place where surgeons are busy.

At what point do I qualify for help. We have very good ins. Ijust don't understand.

I live in a very isolated rural area and travel 4 hours just to see my docs. Local docs are Lyme ignorant and even fail finding kidney stones.

Hound them! Don't sit and wait for another attack.

Seems like I have heard of people using apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for kidney stones. But I could be remembering wrong. Try a search of lymenet archives and see if you can find this info. I don't have any personal experience with this, so don't take my word for anything!

Is this something that would be treated with surgery? Don't they do lithotripsy before surgery?

Here is the thread I was remembering about kidney stones:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/121417?#000000

Several suggestions here. Hope you get some relief. I know how painful these can be as my brother used to have them.

my gastro and obgyn are much better than my primary care. if something is wrong, such as lately, they have called within one day.

the primary will not call at all with results and you have to call them to find out everything is normal. sometimes i waited 3-4 days and then they say "well if we don't call you assume everything is fine"...

well duh....

-How much did you take and for how long? It took a week for my husband's attacks to go away. It's been one month now since his last attack. He is still taking the chanca piedra tincture everyday.

In answer to your question.... CALL THEM AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET HELP!!

I used to work at a urologist's office- definitely call them back 1st thing Monday morning. Stones u can't pass can be dangerous if they move and cause a blockage.

U may hav gotten lost in the shuffle, does happen occasionally in a busy practice.

Also, if u hav another attack and hav to go back to the ER this wkend, there shud be a urologist on call that can do the surgery if need be.

Thanks for the encouragement to call again. I hate to be a pest,

but I live in a very secluded area and will have to go to another town to see an urologist

becuase our hospital is small we only have 2 GPs and a PA.

I am going to ask how long it is going to take to get them removed.

If I can't get an answer or it seems like a long way out,

I am going to call another urologist that diagnosed my Lyme in the first place.

Different town with different docs, she may be able to get me scheduled sooner.

Do people have a change in bowels when there are kidneys stones in the body?

My bowels feel like I need to have diarrehea but is hard to get anything to pass, it has lots of

wads of white/clear (mucus, fibrorous)stuff attached to the fecal matter.

I have terrible bowel issues and need a

gastro too. I guess it is one thing at a time.

You have an ulcer? Does this mean you have untreated H. pylori? Sounds like it could be.

Are you following the sugar free diet?? Mucous could be from yeast.

I have been tested for H pylori a couple of times and always comes back negative.

I am on a sugar free diet, but eat lemons, limes, green apples, and blueberries.

I have been on nystatin and diflucan for yeast also.

But, I am not saying I still don't have yeast still in my body.

Especially if the practice is busy, I would call every 2 or 3 hours. As the saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hubby had lithotripsy way back in 1999 I think it was. I live in a smaller town but not as small as yours obviously. There is a truck that drives around to the different hospitals in this area and the lithrotripsy procedures are scheduled 1 or 2 days per week depending on where the truck is at.

Your doc should have told you at the appointment what the plans are -- whether they plan to do lithotripsy or surgery. It sounds like poor planning on their part not to tell you what the next step is.

Any hospital could do an x-ray or KUB (kidney urinary bladder) or even ultrasound. Maybe your PCP could write the orders and you could get the xrays done ASAP and then call a different urologist.

Good luck. I know kidney stones can be very painful. Hubby had mostly nausea and vomiting with his rather than actual pain. I think most of his pain was back pain if I remember correctly.

And after the lithotripsy it was a month or two before all the pieces of the stone came out in his urine.

You need lots of B6 and magnesium to prevent stones in the future. Also citic acid -- lemon juice or magesium citrate is good.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the good support.

This is my second round of stones.

I have referred to a kidney/endocrinologist to see if we can figure out why I have so many stones.

But I don't see her until Feb.

It is always a hurry up and wait game.

I did get on her cancellation schedule.

I am going to see if I can take the B6 and mag. I have bladder issues in the past and all B vitamins used to kill my bladder.

I have just purchased a B12 with folate.

I think I would be wise to find a very good broadspectrum one with all the Bs in it.

My problem is, I can't have a lot of fillers and additives in any of my supplements.

I can find them, but have to research sometimes hours to find the right combo.

I have had like 5 kidney store attacks that forced me to an ER (one every 18 months or so). I could never catch any stones to have them analyzed for any needed diet changes. This was all way before Lyme treatment.

I started to drink a low calorie cranberry juice daily and it seems to keep the stones away and is good for your kidneys. Also, since lyme treatment I now drink 60 oz of water daily.

I think that dark cherry juice is also good.

Got pleanty of other Lyme and Babs issues, but glad not to ever have another kidney stone attack.

Good luck with getting the stones removed. I think they just blast them away with sonic pulses.

I will try the low calorie cranberry juice.

I don't know if I can do it because I have had ulcers, but always up to try anything to help.

I drink about 3 quarts of water a day. This still does not keep stones at bay.

I need to know if anyone has a way to flush the bowels that is not going to put a stress on the kidneys.

I need to have a regular xray so they can see where the kidneys stones are.

I am so constipated that the last xray couldn't even detect my kidneys.

My urologist suggested doing a liquid diet for 24 hours.

I made it 12 hours and then it started blizzarding here and couldn't get the xray done so I quit the liquid diet.

It took two days for my bowels to move on their own.

That is how sluggish my digestive system is.

I have thought about going for a colonic and getting the xray done immediately afterward.

Any suggestions?

Slow bowel movement sometimes means hypothyroidism. Do you have cold hands and feet even in a warm room?
