I am in a bitter arguement with my county department (Davidson County, TN) and trying to get my case of lyme disease reported. Has anyone in the year 2007 been diagnosed with lyme disease in Nashville? I really want to get this reported. The CDC's definition of an endemic county is a county with 2 confirmed cases of Lyme disease. TWO! Report yours!

we have OTHER nashville members; so my answer would be YES!

why don't you copy your entire post, and put it in SEEKING DR. TOO?

BEFORE doing that, go down page by page and look for NASHVILLE, TENN. llmds!! then send a PRIVATE MESSGE to those members to ask if they were bitten there? [Big Grin]

i think that might work the best for you; or at least it's a PLACE TO START!! good luck!

thank you for reporting it and trying to get others to report it!! [group hug] [kiss]

Dear J, check out TennesseeLyme. The moderator is very knowledgeable and might be able to help you. Did you have a positive ELISA and a CDC positive blot? The counties are unlikely to count anything less.

Hey! There are not any LLMDs in Tennessee as far

as I have researched. I searched Nashville,

Chattanooga, and most of the area betweeen. I

had to travel over 500 miles, like many, to get

the diagnosis from my positive ELISA and western

blot test. I actually had a feeling it was lyme

and went to a walk in clinic and told a nurse

practioner that I was in college microbiology

and would get extra credit if she would do it.

This was after being sent away from three

infectious disease docs and numerous doc offices

(general and neuro) in tears and pain. How

stupid of me to think a positive test (Now 2

positive Blots and ELISA) would start

treatment. My FORMER infectious disease doctor

that diagnosed me ONLY with rocky mountain (she told me that a tick can only have this in TN) in

2006-- laughed at me and asked why such a smart

biology student would want to pretend to have

lyme. I only pursued it so hard because I

learned about the bacteria--and got scared and

more sick. Well, pre-antibiotics the walk-in

clinic called and told me a county employee

would not stop calling asking how I had lyme in

TN?! I was very angry... and decided to call her

myself. She went on to tell me that they have

had "lyme-like" diseases but it was very

unlikely that I could have this. Yet, she could

not define: HME, HGE, and tick vector illness on

that phone call. I became angry and told her

she could report it as this if she could find a

doctor for my case-and stressed the need of long

term antibiotics. I gave her 48 hours and asked

her to wish her lucky stars she would not have a

daughter or young friend become sick with

this and NOW have an OUTSIDE PERSON telling me I

didn't have anything. She would not help me

then or now. When I got the full diagnosis I

asked if I could come down with assistance and

USE MY TIME to teach her on the threat of

coinfections and how diseases do not run from

state lines. She refused. I asked if I could

bring my papers stating my diagnosis. She again

refused. She told me to have my doctor fax my

papers and I am waiting till Monday to give my

twice-weekly call to make sure she is going to

report this. I know a lot of you understand how

lonely this disease made you... from family,

friends, and the medical community that you once

trusted. I never knew the county department

would get in my life and try to change my

diagnosis. I am pursuing actions with her

supervisor soon too. The tennesseelyme yahoo

group is so not working for me now... not

exactly sure why. Would love to join that--if

that is the correct link or error on my part?

Thanks for the input everyone!!

I think we really need to strategize about what can work in this type of situation so we don't have sick people beating their heads against walls.

Bugg I hope you will join, too. I really feel people in each state need to get together and start talking. This has got to stop.

In CA we got a dr protection law, provided certain conditions are met.

We also got lab reporting.

Some things we tried for we haven't got yet.

Education of healthcare professionals is the main thing. The CALDA grants have been very popular and successful. A doctor from my neighborhood who went in 2007 has diagnosed 30 cases since he came back from Boston.

Looks like dog vets have no trouble finding lyme in TN.

Maybe you can send them this information.
