ELISA says my titer is 2.7. Is this high? Low? Average?
Dr called and said I dont have lymes because even though the ELISA is positive, the western blot is negative.

maybe someone else can weigh in on titer levels, i actually forget what they are, i thought >2.5??.

For Quest, LabCorp and probably most labs using lyme EIA/ELISA:
Reference Range: < or = 0.90 Negative 0.91-1.09 Equivocal > or = 1.10 Positive
Trinity Biotech sells lyme IgM/IgA ELISA test kits that use the same values. Labs buy kits from Trinity to use for their, the labs, testing.
Trinity also sells lyme Western Blot kits.

How long have you been feeling like ---------isms I want to get angry and learned it's futile. Tell the Dr his I. Q. Test came back Negative. Not really but it's something to laugh at Everytime you see him.
It's actually all on the CDC's vote / veto Like silent and listen just switch around the order of letters.
Ok now I feel a lot better.

HIGH... as chuck said.
A positive ELISA is somewhat rare... so you can believe that one. A negative western blot with a lousy lab doesn't mean much. The inferior labs don't even test for all possible bands.
PS.. and if he called it Lymes, then you KNOW he knows nothing about it.

- To echo others' replies: a positive ELISA is a rare event and, likely points to lyme, if you are also ill, etc.
That doctor is mired in the CDC & IDSA approach, one that can spell doom for lyme patients.
Ditto to LymeToo's point about the "s"
And, if your doctor actually used the term "lymes" with an "s" you KNOW he has not been educated about lyme disease because all the profession literature speaks to "lyme"
- other than maybe having a southern drawl or adding an "s" to other words, when a DOCTOR adds the "s" often that is a red flag.
Remember lyme is to be a clinical diagnosis. While IGENEX offers the far better tests, there is no test that can rule out lyme and really, your ELISA speaks volumes.
I don't think you need another lyme test. I would save your money - and maybe ask for testing of the other tick-borne infections. First, you need a clinical assessment with a LLMD.

I didn't say "high". What I said was "> or = 1.10 Positive"
I have no idea what the highest possible reading is. Probably could figure it out from the Trinity math involved in the determination of the result.

Thank you. I drive 3 hours tomorrow to go to the specialist. Praying I get some help. I've lost 8 lbs because I can't swallow more than applesauce or yogurt. Having nerve paralysis sucks!
Is it possible that the titer level is elevated because I simply have built up enough antibodies?

^ Honestly......you have lyme. thats the honest to god truth. Positive elisas are RARE! you wouldnt have tons of antibodies to a disease that you dont even have. i mean come on lets be real here. people dont just make tons of antibodies to something that isnt attacking their body
also the fact that you are so ill pretty much says it
We are all here for you. The fact that you are going to a specialist means you are on the right track! Lyme is a clinical diagnosis.

My ELISA test was 1 of many to follow. Although it too came back Poss. Here is what The Dr said. I know it was rehearsted in his head. The word Poss. Was typed for all to see.
It's s false poss he proclaimed it simply meant I once had been exposed to Lyme prior to the current tic bite. And Duh here's my favorite.He patted me on top of my head and he would prescribe something to help me sleep and to go home and go to bed...
I slowly stood up on my feet and this is what I said. That's All I Do Is Sleep From the Fatigue..,He wrote it and left the room. This was the 1st Dr of way to many.
