I have noticed since around the time I started my herbal protocol(Japanese Knotweed and Samento )that I have had a hoarse sounding voice. I had it in February too though, just before I started the herbal protocol, so I guess I'm not entirely sure it's from the herbal protocol. Luckily it doesn't sound all too bad, it just sounds a bit hoarse, as if I am getting over a cold or something it is rather annoying. People will ask me if im sick too sometime cuz of it. One other minor thing is that I used to live with just 1 cat and now I live with 3 cats. Could it be some kind of allergy? I'm lucky I never had allergies before, maybe this is the beginning of them?

The thing that makes me think it's not allergy related though is that I have no other allergy symptoms at all, but I am herxing on the herbal treatment, which is why I initially thought it's from a herx. It's been this way for two months! Any help is appreciated.

On this thread nefferdun mentions a hoarse voice being one of the symptoms of Protomyxzoa Rheumatica:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/125310

I notice my voice does become more hoarse when I'm herxing from it. Seems like die off from other infections that tend to inhabit the mouth and throat could potentially cause this same symptom though.

Samento mainly just boosts your immune system so it could be helping to kill a number of things.
I don't think Japanese Knotweed has much of a killing effect from what I've noticed.

Are you rising your mouth, throat and esophagus with pure water after taking all herbs - gargling GENTLY with just water? If concentrated herbs / tinctures (or lemon water, for example) sit on the tender tissues in the throat, that can irritate the vocal cords.

A "water wash" is good after consuming anything else, actually. Although, a piece of real licorice to melt in your mouth can be very helpful.

A ZINC LONZENGE might be of help a few times a day.

Avoid spicy foods, be sure to stay hydrated.

Keeping your torso mostly upright for a half hour after taking anything and also after eating so that there is no "backwash" so to speak?

HEPA filter on your vacuum would also be a good idea, if possible.

In any case, the vocal cords are affected and likely inflamed. VOICE REST is important as much as possible during any times of hoarseness. To talk with irritated vocal cords can further irritate them. Even whispering can also strain the vocal cords.

Hope this improves nicely soon. If not, then you might have a doctor look at the vocal cords with a scope.

Could be causing acid reflux, which can cause hoarseness.

A hoarse voice is a protomyxzoa symptom. I always got it after eating something fatty. What did you eat before the hoarse voice?
