I just had my second follow-up with Dr. L in New York.

Since I had an adverse reaction to minocycline, Dr. L has prescribed an intense regimen of Zithromax.

The unfortunate part is that Cigna will not cover this prescription - i.e. 90 pills in 30 days.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can approach Cigna in this matter to get a more favorable outcome?

If the situation can not be rectified, what is the best route to pursue to purchase Zithromax at a price below $902, which CVS is currently quoting to me.

$900 Yikes!

I would get my dr. to write a letter to your insurance company explaining that the prescribed treatment is 90 pills per month. We have typed out letters for the drs to sign as they can be too vague, which means it has to be done over.

Other idea...If you can't get this covered, can you try a different antibiotic? Seems like there are many alternatives, but I am not a dr.

I also have Cigna and had the same problem. They did allow me to fill the prescription for the number of pills allowed (can't remember the amount) every so many days, but had to pay the deductible for the prescription ($25) every time. It was expensive, but not $900!

Good news everyone.

After Dr. L appealed to Cigna, the insurance company reversed its decision and I was able to get 90 Zithromax pills for just the copay of $20.

The lesson here is to keep pushing and do not let the insurance companies discourage you.
